So we tossed a set of Yokohama tires on the Prius that use 80% non petroleum based products. The majority of which is oil from orange peels.

So far they appear to handle and ride as well or better then the stock tires. At first glance the fuel economy appears to be at or above the stock tires as well. I actually chose to purchase them before even knowing what they were made of. I just hope they can withstand the very hot Phoenix roads this summer.

I thought I should share the fact that companies are looking for alternatives to fossil based products and actually using them. It's a step in the right direction as far as I'm concerned. The peel is actually left over from orange juice industries.

Careful driving in the rain. They might be a little more slippery than the regular tires.

Based on tirerack's tests they are actually not bad at all in the rain, much better in fact then the OEM tires that came with the car.
