Another soap in the Forum?
A post I made was deleted without any sort of explanation. I'm just kind of annoyed about the clandestine censorship. If I were given a reason, I may still disagree with the deletion, but at least I'd know what to avoid doing in the future, which I figure is the goal of enforcing rules in the forum. Additionally, this makes me wonder to what degree the discussions on the forum are pruned at the whims of the mods. It's a paranoid point of view, I'll admit, but it's a natural consequence of the opaque nature of rule enforcement I'm encountering.
what was the thread about ?
What was the thread about?
Which forum did you post it in?
When did you post it?
Let me know and I shall investigate. Personally I would not delete anything without a full explanation. However, if it is this one:

without actually checking our site rules/guidelines I suspect we have something about off-topic, irrelevant material being deleted without warning. (If we don't, we should have.)
Anyway , awaiting your response.

(Remember, what appears like conspiracy is nearly always incompetence.)
If you're referring to the above quote by Ophi, it was I who removed it.
As a general announcement, just let me say that if you find your post/thread missing, the first thing you should ask is: was it appropriate? Was it insulting or off-topic? Was it a spam advert (or appeared to be)?
If so, then it was likely deleted from the thread (or subforum in the case of an entire thread). Such posts/threads are moved from the original source to a special subforum visible to the moderators, so they're not completely gone, but it wouldn't be practical to PM every member each time such a post was deleted.
If it was a particularly long post that was interesting but simply wrong for the thread it was in, it might find itself split to new thread, perhaps one of its own so as to begin an new discussion. This would generally occur after an off-topic comment became its own sub-discussion and the split is to differentiate between the discussions (eliminating confusion) and to allow each discussion to proceed on its own merit.
Should you have any questions about deleted posts, feel free to PM a moderator who can look into the posts themselves to see what or why they were deleted. Sometimes we make mistakes and delete the wrong post or misread what was actually written. If that's the case, the post can be retrieved and moved back to its rightful thread -perhaps with an edit to make it less ambiguous or more clear.
Again, this isn't something that occurs frequently, but deleting an insult/flame/trolling post often prevents flame-wars or the need to warn/ban down the road -keeping everyone happy and discussing!
