Does any of the administrators or forum members know when any of the moderators will be back or new ones appointed ? as it seems to me that there is a certain amount of bitcheness(?) going around at the moment as well as some idiots making stupid posts that normally would see that person banned, none of which seemed to be an issue a month or two ago. Thank you.

I too have noticed (today) a few asinine posts. I wish Megabrain would come back...

...or Ophiolite to step up again.

    Cheers

Hi chaps, I'm not in the best of health at the moment, and trawling through hundreds of posts is not a priority at the moment. If you can send me a PM with precise details of the worst offender(s) I'll see what I can do. - thanks for your patience.. MB.

as i said in a PM to HomoUniversalis, a button for reporting spam / offending posts wouldn't go amiss

it might be a bit of a bother to hack the code but i think it would be a useful addition

That's a good idea. It's nice to see MB still alive, only just by the sounds of it, but im sure as soon as he's back everything will go back to normal.

'megabrain' (or 'Dad' as i call the stubborn old b#####d) asked me to post this :-

    "High guys,
IF anybody has a spare (functional) kidney out there PM me. i'm out of circulation for a while, at least another 3 weeks, when i get home the PC will not be my first priority and neither will you lot but if you're having bets on on how long i'm likely to survive i'll put $40 on another 30 years. Rgds y'all - MB."

Ok, the kidney problem was a sideshow i'm sure he'll say more when he gets back. i know he enjoys this site and while h's on it we get a break from him so cheers! Philip, PP 'megabrain'.

Philip: Slightly confused, but if your pa really is unwell, I'm sure we are all mighty sorry to hear that, I know I am. Wish him a speedy recovery from all here.

    Hmmm...

I apologize for not being on top of this forum. I've just found my life is extremely busy lately. I do however want to ensure that this forum does not fall apart due to lack of moderation.

The moderators are 100% volunteers, this forum does not generate the kind of income that could even fathom a person to maintain it. To this date it has paid out starting as of Mon Oct 18, 2004 6:47 pm $102.95 , another payment just over $100 is scheduled to be paid out soon. That's a bit over $200 in 3 years.

Ok, now that we have out of the way the delusion any one might have that this site makes money...let's figure out how to handle the moderation issue (if it exists). I absolutely can not fault anyone that does all this for free. I would suggest if we are lacking moderation that someone start a post that nominates moderators and let's vote on them.

Qualifications for the job include the following:

Ability to be unbiased and keep your personal opinions in check with the position. A moderator is not a person that enforces their own views on to others.

One must be able to recognize spammers and deal with them.

Tolerance for people that may have views and opinions that you disagree with.

    Patience

In the words of Pink Floyd....."I don't know I was really drunk at the time".

Perhaps that should be my signature
Pleased to meet you. Hope you guess my name

Let me apologize. I've been away too long. I had a pretty rough last semester or two and even my blog fell to the wayside.

I'll keep a hotlink to the site on my toolbar and check in daily to at least look for spam.

Also, if anyone wants to PM me or send an email to cfeagans AT gmail DOT com, I can respond to problems. PMs send me an email notification and I can address an issue probably as quick as an email.

Good to know you still exist. We (or at least I) completely understand your situation; I'll be sure to notify you if I see spam or outrageous posts.

I was wondering where he went. I left the site for a month or two and just got back and noticed he wasn't posting anywhere.

Good luck with that kidney Megabrain. We'll see ya later.

think he did answer some PM. also understand he is somewhat tired, but doing better than he expected to be at this time. any stomach problem can be quite a drain on a system, kidney problems maybe the most painful.

hate to disappoint you, but a controlled double-blind experiment on prayer has shown that it doesn't have any effect at all

Yes...I've got direct experience with that. Don't depend on prayer, people...

    Wow...I must really suck, then!

[[[[In my theistic opinion, praying is like asking your parents for something. There's an equal chance of them saying 'yes', as there is of them saying 'no'. If you depend on it too much, there's a high chance you're going to be very disappointed when your 'father' (God) says no, and an equally high chance that you're going to get fed up and become atheist. If you're a very lucky, successful, and/or religious person, then you're going to believe that it always works. If you're someone like me, you pray for the sake of trying your luck. Maybe He'll say yes, maybe He'll say no; maybe He won't intervene and stuff will go down naturally (which, for the most part, happens a lot of times...or so I believe).]]]

It's my theistic opinion, people, say what you like, but it's my opinion:::
