    Just a note:

Anything that finds itself tossed in the trash can will be deleted after 90 days of inactivity. This is not a note to encourage people to keep trash alive, just a note to let anyone know where there trash went.

Anything with excessive profanity may find it's way to the trash can. Threads that turn in to flame war may also end up in the trash.

Sometimes part of a thread will be moved to the trash leaving the good part where it started. This is a good indication someone has gone way off topic and/or started a flame war.

Topics that have no meaning to these forums will end up in the trash.

It's possible a topic that turns out to be good may be removed from the trash however unlikely.

The site overall may loose post count because of topics deleted from the trash can, the idea is to keep the good topics and remove the rest.

    Example of a flame war.

    John, Your stupid!

    Sally, No your stupid.

    John, Jackass!!

    Sally, Moron.

    John, Your mother

    Sally, F%#( you.

    Forgive the bad example.

    OK.

I'm not going to insult you.

But you are an idiot, an idiot as in 'your picture is in the dictionary next to the word "idiot"'.

Yeah, take that to heart as an insult if you wish and do whatever. But that is how I perceive this petty decision.
    This idiocy pisses me off.

People using your disheveled antics as a shrouding mechanism.

I bet you make the dumbest fuck-warriors (yeah yeah, add me if you wanna fuck the dot) to look like they have something to say.

I don't want to see the 'choice works' - that are selected by people like you, pseudo wiggers - of the posters. I wan't to see the whole package.

    So..
    John, you're stupid.

But imperfect human nature is a good topic, and there are good ones there. "Flame wars" is so homogeneous, bias against human psychology.

    Do you need an interpreter?

    Brains perhaps?

Alter your decision, or I will date your daughter.

I changed the delete time to 90 days. If nobody is posting to a thread in the trash for that long then they never will.

    Hmm.
Well. 90 days is better than seven days but this could still be the death of some good threads. Forseeably.

Threads shouldn't be moved into the trashcan so easily because of this. A few playful insults (or even not so playful) in an otherwise good thread shouldn't automatically spell out it's death warrant.

A climate of fear descends over the one happy halls...

    Ah. Missed this part.
    Well.
This is better than the whole thread being deleted but....
We'll just have to work it out on a case by case basis. See what happens when the first ignominious example of excessive moderative abuse takes place....
    Heh.

I think that there should be a light touch in these things. A moment or two to see if things will settle down. A warning or two to keep things on track. Then a move.

And. Just as in profanity. All flames are not necessaily as stupid as "You're stupid."

Want me to point you to some threads over at the other place where you can see some real flame wars? Warning. You'd have to pull up a seat and prepare to read, because these flames aren't just "You're stupid." Posts a mile long and full of venom but also intelligence and good points.

Edit: Oh and about splitting threads. Another of the functions you need to get working is the merge feature. So that you can cave to public pressure..
    Muahahahhaha!!
    Seriously though.

I also have added the merge option to the forum, so we can put back stuff that gets pulled apart.

What would really be fun -- and different -- is if a Moderator objects to a certain post, instead of deleting it or editing it or censuring it or moving it to the trash, he'd use his privileged red ink for all to see and ask the author to please edit his/her own post... otherwise. It'd be amusing to see how a poster might correct/conform him/herself.

And -- out of curiosity -- what would you do if the second draft disagreed with you still?

Nice setup question, you know full well it would. I would get one of the other mods to look at it.

Well, if it were made clear (from previous red-ink request to edit problem-post) that the poster's choice of words or choice of attitude wasn't in sync with your temperament (the forum's), and if self-edited corrections did not suffice, then there would be no more dallying and appropriate measures would be taken (by the admin -- whether to trash, re-edit by a mod, delete, etc.).

Or -- and I don't know how this might be carried out, but it might be worth it, as an extension to the fun -- another member could edit the post before the admin tackles it.

So, imagine Tiassa editing Perfect's post, or Medicine*Woman editing Water's!

I could see the chaos that would cause, I'm sure it would be fun for someone and not so much fun for others.
