I have just had a thought, which occurred to me as I answered a thread.

How about a thread or forum where we can recommend books to each other, or maybe two threads, fiction and non-fiction?

And call it Book Club ?

    Any thoughts, moderators?

I'd like that. The problem with science books, you can order anything on line -if you know it exists. I've gotten some very good recommendations from people on science forums. I also subscribe to a mailing list - Phillip Manning's Science Books News Scibooks.org - test page
I like it because he has quick reviews of several books from a wide variety of topics. The book reviews in the Journal Nature are pretty good too.

I think it is a good idea. Each book in itself however possibly needs a distinct thread for detailed discussion. Perhaps you could have a general topic thread called 'Book Reviews' and then raise a seperate thread for each book discussed. I have picked up some great books from suggestions by members on this forum. The one I am reading now is a page turner titled "Blink - The Power of Thinking without Thinking" by Malcolm Gladwell which was a recommendation from this forum.

Hello moderators. Are we allowed to recommend books on this public forum?

haven't discussed this with other moderators, but i can't see why not
at a push it probably could fit in Science-Fiction and Non-Fiction ?

I might start it in Art and Culture if that's OK, because the thread you suggest is really a different avenue and also I suspect not all the books will necessarily be science books.
