The whole site seemed to be down yesterday evening the 16th for a good 4 hours or so. Are there separate servers for the US because I don't seem to see a noticeable gap in the postings around that time (I just checked in the "today's posts" area ).

I was able to verify that it wasn't my own computer or connection responsible by using this site.

Website down or not? - Website availability check

It was down here in the UK too from about 7 pm until after midnight (when I went to bed).

Hannah40 and I noticed the same thing - both of us are in the UK. I did idly wonder if it might be that"newuser" arsehole buggering around with it (see announcements). We have a disgruntled ex-contributor who seems to be obsessed with trying to screw up the site.

Admin has been installing software patches, so he probably took it down for that.

It went down in the middle of one of my posts. I'm sure it was going to be an inspiring comment on the state of humanity, too. You guys really missed out.

As is often the case with technical subjects we are presented with an unfortunate choice: an explanation that is accurate but incomprehensible, or comprehensible but wrong.

lol, I think I was writing a post out too.

Then I thought hang on, the whole forums broke, was it my G-spot thread! They've banned be for good.
Although for some strange reason, when I accessed the site yesterday morning, it came up as showing me already logged in. Strange.

That would explain why the Physics Forum was down also.

Not going to lie... I actually kind of benefited from the crash. Had an exam this morning, and last night I was going to take a study break and do a little browsing on here. Didn't get to do what I wanted so I went back to studying and reread something I probably would not have read. It was totally on the exam, and worth 5% of the exam grade.
