Every time I try to post I must wait a long time for it to post. Many times I'm asked to "leave this page" after 2 minutes of waiting. Is there a problem going on? Thank you for your time on this matter for I see others are experiencing the same problems I'm having.

a little experimentation has shown me that when that message comes up more often than not the post has already been accepted and it "thinks" I'm trying to post again..

Same here- I get that frequently. When it does, I just hit the thread title to return to it and check my post.

    Sadly, it's usually there.

Firefox also worked fine for mine, though, when I switched to Maxthon "which is a ballin' dolphin browser" it does the aforementioned "leave page" whatnot.

I'm using firefox only, and that's where I have the trouble.

I found the forum 'slow' a few weeks ago but have had no problems recently. Then again, I haven't been posting as much lately so perhaps that is why I am not 'noticing' it. I spent today cleaning out my attached greenhouse and have several boxes of good used gardening supplies going to the 'free store' at our recycling depot in the morning. It looks great and I am happy that I finally got engaged and tackled the project.

P.S. - This post flashed up in a matter of a very few seconds. No problems here, at least not at the present moment.

The server takes its full backup at around 1400 CST almost daily. I expect the forum's performance to degrade around that time. But if it's acting slow all or most of the time then this is something I need to look into. The posts above do suggest that the problem is faced most of the time, at least by some members.

The next time any of you face this issue please report here and include the time (and time zone).

9:58 am CST... same thing happened to me. Been happening pretty regularly but didn't think to notice the time and post this until now.

edit: ironically, it did it again just now at 10:02am CST as I was posting this reply

No problems here of late with this forum but I do encounter delays or inability to load on the chess forum and others at times also. My usual checklist is to first try one of my other forums on a window that I already have open, followed by check to see if hubby is downloading something, next check to see if my computer is doing some 'behind-the-scenes' maintenance, and sometimes I will even do a quick on-line search of global weather/news to see if there is something in the works there that may be contributing to the problem.

Interestingly, when the internet was new to me, being unable to access sites caused me disappointment and mild anxiety, lol. Now I just laugh and go and do something in the REAL world which never lacks for entertainment or goes 'off-line'.

What is this REAL world you speak of? Do you mean that tv show that MTV started a long time ago. I watched one maybe two seasons before I got totally sick of it. Was so glad to see the REAL world was gone.

Hardly, lol, as I seldom watch TV even though hubby, in the interests of democracy, pays for two satellite receivers.

What I am referring to is much more basic than that. I refer to the 'unplugged' version of reality that functions even when all man-made device fails.

Devices fail? Unplugged? This does not compute. I go into sleep mode or simply power down until devices work properly again.

I would absolutely love for the whole continent to experience a 'planned power outage' of 24-48 hours duration (say as a planning exercise for future emergencies) and watch all of the people addicted to their internet connections lose their minds.

    It would be truly terrifying!

When I lived in Ferry county, WA for the Summers, there would be an annual scheduled one day outage for maintenance of the high voltage lines that crossed the Kettle Mountains and powered the county. I would take the day for hiking in the morning/afternoon and then reading in the evening till I fell asleep.

I'm having trouble when I try to post anything. I will write what I want then hit submit but it doesn't submit it only sits there trying do that. I must hit submit a few times which then asks me if I want to leave this page which I then hit that to make my post be finally submitted. What's up with that? today and now

naah I'd just take a long nap. Like I said, I go into sleep mode or power down. No need to freak out.

When I lived in Pakistan, we had regular power outages, especially during the hottest part of summer when everyone was trying to run their AC's. There was daily load-shedding as they called it. When each neighborhood had to take an hour or two turn off the grid in order to prevent total black out. The only thing I really used power for was my refrigerator and the fans but we would manage. What really sucked was when a black out would occur anyway for days at a time. Huge pain in the ass, but mainly cuz mother in law kept threatening to die but wouldn't follow through. I can't stand people who are all talk and no action.

ok it did something different this time. The post went through but took 3 minutes to figure that out. I made the post at 11:50 CST

after getting the "leave page" or "stay on page" option to which I agreed to leave the page, it took 3 minutes for an error page to load.

    The link location was http://www.thescienceforum.com/newre...treply&t=35334

    And the message was :

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@thescienceforum.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
    Apache/2.2.17 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.17 OpenSSL/0.9.8m DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 mod_fcgid/2.3.5 Server at www.thescienceforum.com Port 80

edit:And in posting this, it gave me the leave or stay option again and i said leave at which point it decided I hadn't waited 30 seconds between posts and that I should try again in 10 seconds. But instead I checked to see if this message had posted and it did.

I had a similar thing, but I actually enjoyed it due to the message:
"If this error was unexpected then please report it to the administration team".
    Yep.
Because usually when using any board ALL the errors I get are completely expected.

The best ever error message I ever got was on an old Ultrix system: "Error #XXXX. Like NO WAY that should have happened".

I saw an awesome error message the other day. I attempted to visit a page on a site that had been removed, and instead of getting the usual 404 error. There was a 2d stylized picture of a giant blob octopus monster type thing destroying a city and eating skyscrapers. And the message at the top of the screen said "Oh noooo! A monster has eaten one of our pages!!"

I thought it was hilarious. I think in writing programs Ill have to come up with a signature style of announcing errors that will be entertaining and less frustrating to the errors. Maybe the computer saying something like "please don't hurt me, I screwed up, can we try that again?" or "Don't look at me, it was your fault this time!"

I wrote a number of programmes (extended macros really) for use in the office at one of my jobs.
    Due to the fact that
    A) I'd written them for myself
    B) I was entirely self-taught and the rest of the office were brain-dead don't care losers 1
    C) I was coerced into making them available AND informed that there was no extra pay forthcoming (programming wasn't my actual job, nor in the description)
I made them as "user-friendly" as possible - unfortunately it didn't go down too well.
"Press the correct key now. If you don't know which key to press you shouldn't be using this programme".

1 I was once asked, during the third bout of redundancies in a year, what I'd do if my name came up on the list.
Me: I'll go work at XXXX (local mental institution)
Boss: Oh? Do you have any experience in that field?
Me: 12 years with the mental defectives in this office. Including you. Does that count?

Does that mean different errors or just different error messages?

    oohhh... grumble gripe.

And let me guess. You want our help, for free, packing up all the posts into sorted boxes and loading them onto the truck...

Fine, but I would expect pizza and beer when we arrive at the unloading station before getting started on unloading the truck.

Doing it intermittently at any hour for the last 30 hours or so- plus the board's been sluggish and choppy, with occasional patches of unavailable for the last 24 hours or so.

I just had a weird experience. was trying to report a post and it took me three tries to get it to go through. The first two times it said I didn't have sufficient privileges to do so. It did that twice and I had to log out and back in again and then it worked. I have no idea what could have caused that.

Ermm perhaps someone can explain to me why I keep getting a 'token expiration' when trying to post, and it tells me I need to go back and try again? This is new to the 'leave page stay on page' buttons I normally get.

Admin did say he was going to change servers, maybe there are some adjustment issues. or maybe it wasn't the server with the problem. Maybe a software update caused problems or something. I wonder if any other vbulletin forums are having similar problems.
