Ban and suspension alternative; Exile to subfora!

The above idea has been formulated with a contemplation of the traffic value of Cranks and Drama Queens.

My suggestion is that demonstrable cranks be exiled for a time, or permanently, to Pseudo and The Trash.
Likewise, demonstrable Drama Queens would be exiled to General Discussion and The Trash.

Also, perhaps such entities as Cranks and Drama Queens could be labeled as such?

    Later Edit Add:
There should also be a troll Can, and "TheVoiceInside" should be the first to go in it.

Ah, but now you are singling out by means of individual example, a kind of suppression of rights, as it were, given that all are created equal, and are deserving of equal consideration and benefit. Joseph Stalin used a bit different method to eliminate the inept, impoverished (mental and otherwise), sick, poor, and elderly. Just think: Harry S. Truman spoke of the man as "Uncle Joe"! jocular

NO. The last thing we want to do is provide a comfortable home for crankery.

If people refuse to learn, that's one thing.

If they both refuse to learn and behave badly .... they get suspended or banned just as any other person behaving unacceptably would.

Interesting idea in some ways. On another forum, there is one individual who posts interesting enough material but often gets carried away, in effect spamming a thread through overinundation of off-topic material. This individual is in receipt of regular two week bans or alternatively is banished to a single thread in one subforum which is the only place they can post until next released. This poster is seldom abusive, just sometimes misguided. At other times, they go for a considerable interval before getting on one of their posting sprees.

There is the point that some posters may have 'traffic flow value' even if they do not seem to fit in with the main stream discussions.

I suppose it depends on the what the priorities of this forum owner may be as well as how they choose to be perceived by the on-line community.

What rights!? It is a forum. You have no rights.

The moderators are far too lax on people like TheVoice and similar.

Please feel free to report away when something like this happens. We might easily miss one of these guys, so that would help a lot. My intention is to restrict people like The Voice to the pseudo, trash or New Hypothesis sections and to send them on their way if they continue to post in the main sections. I would appreciate you guys' help with this. Thanks!

I echo Kalster. The best tool to indentify crackpots and other disruptive people is to report them. Thevoice dude has only a couple reports prior to yesterday and a few attempts made to curb his style of posting garbage. We had a few in a row late yesterday--that really gets our attention--they were reviewed quickly, the several complaint found valid and he is now banished to bother some other science forum.

Yep, unfortunately I have to agree with banning.
Mainly because, with every crank that comes along, there's this small voice inside me that says "Just one more post showing the logic/ evidence/ reasoning will make this looney realise where and how he's wrong".
And every time it always takes at least one more post than I can make...

Hope (and a - so far - unsubstantiated "faith" in a prevalence of basic rationality) always gets the better of me.

You are right. I should be more willing to report people (I always feel bad about it for some reason).

Reporting? It's not just about bad behaviour, it's about maintaining the forums. If a 'topic' doesn't belong in physics or biology, then a report about that, rather than just about the person, may be the quickest way to get it shunted off elsewhere.

Remember we don't have moderators dedicated to patrolling or overseeing each individual forum as many other such sites do, so it's entirely possible we could be a bit slow in picking some things up.

    Point of interest:
I do not get paid to be a father to my son, either. I am honor bound, however, to try to be the best father I can be.
When a person volunteers for service, they may not always get financial benefit, but they chose and agreed to a duty and are obligated to function in it to the best of their ability; Not point out a lack of pay for a duty they chose to take on.

Then you were not forced. It's voluntary. But true... You feel compelled to uphold your end and not decline or just quit when you get tired of it, right? That is an example of honoring your agreement.

What I said stands- it's a duty that you agreed to do.
It IS voluntary, because it's not a paid job; it was not forced onto you.
You are honor bound to do that duty. For payment to enter into it would be nothing but an excuse. Payment is absolutely utterly irrelevant. I see no reason for it to ever be brought up as bringing it up (Dywyddyr) smacks of excusing a mod from his duties since he's not being paid for work he agreed to do.

Note: this was an off topic point of interest, not a suggestion that you have, in any way, failed at your duties.

I don't think pay is irrelevant. I'm not suggesting that what the mods do here isn't important, but considering they probably all have lives outside the forum, I can't imagine they would pour too much of themselves into making sure a bunch of people (some completely looney, belligerent, or inappropriate) are playing nice. The fact that they not only moderate, but actively participate in a constructive way already puts them ahead of the mods on many forums.

Already I have received two short bans, and I am trying to tread carefully to not receive further bans. In my posts I do come up with some crazy ideas and thought's.

It is presumed that myself personally, that I do not listen and do not learn. It is actually quite the contrary , at the start of 2013 I knew nothing about science.

I sadly did not know that light was even a Photon. That Atoms have quarks, what the periodic table meant e.t.c.

Sometimes a persons inability to explain, or inability to use the correct grammar , can be mistaken for a troll or a bad forum member.

Profanities are the key to spotting true trolls.

Profanities looking to get a reaction.

The point that a person could be banned who is genuine, a person that is a troll could slip through and easily blend into the group.

    Who only posts to deter...
    Who asked questions...
    Who looks for new ideas...

    Who is ill mannered...
    Who is rude....
    Who as childish behavior....

Questions like this is what I would ask myself...who pulls the wool over our eyes.

Plus I was just defending my position in the forum , that I am not a troll.

A forum just needs a crazy post section, then all ideas could go through it , and in the right forum place.

Because while you have picked up some incidental information, such as light being photons, you've demonstrated little in the way of learning.
"Learning" is NOT confusing the topics as much as possible, speculating wildly and making up stuff. That is NOT how learning gets done.
    Period.
Yet, that is what you continue to do- you muddle the topics and you speculate heavily.
Now, I agree that you are not a troll by how I understand the definition.
But you cannot claim to be much of a student, either.

Amatuer - definition of Amatuer by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

I was unaware that there was more than one spelling of amateur.

    amateur (redirected from Amatuer)

The above may be construed as an example of clarification or if Ascended was easily offended, some might contemplate that I was trolling that poster.

Ama - from the Latin? Amo, amas, amat? Love?
    Tuer - French to kill.
Love killer? Lover killer? Lover of killing?
