    Wha happa?

Man I just retrieved my age-old signature that hasn't been allowed FOREVER at the other place, and with excitement pasted the HTML code in the box, submitted and realized there are no signatures.

    Grrrrrrrrr.

    Hehe.

Come on man! Mine is hillarious! It rules! It's the signature of all wes-like signatures!

    Please?

    Thanks.

Compose it in the edit window using the BBCode, then use that as your Sig, You can get the exact same results. Well almost.

For those that don't know it yet, you can highlight stuff in your post and click the Font colour, URL, Img buttons etc and it will place the tags around it.

You can use an image in your sig, but if it's too big I'm going to bitch.

In one of the forums I was perusing, there was no signature on anyone's post. Maybe it's the crack talking. If it comes up again, I'll mention it.

Besides that... what the hell is wrong with my BBCode there? Damnit man, it looks fixed to me.

    pointers?

Hey. Who else is circling your head besides Xev? Gozer, the Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man?

It looks like they don't have center.

Grrr.. I'm annoyed at me for screwing up this code somehow.

    centering stuff is desirable.

it doesn't seem like being nice would be out of character...

Hey as long as you're in a "jacking with settings" kind of mood, would you be so kind as to allow us to change our titles?

"forum freshman" and that stuff is extremely boring. People put cool stuff there. Can we see where they go with it?

I'd second that motion. As it stands now, people would have to co-opt their location to that sort of thing.

It's actually based on rankings, the more posts you make the higher the rank. We can assign custom ranks like "Dumb ass of the year"..etc. But it's kind of a pain.

I'm open to suggestions on what the ranks should read. Start a thread, see what the people come up with.

    It would be
    0-xxx post is this rank.
    xxx-xxx posts is this rank....etc.

    Better yet just put

    0 This rank
    100 this rank
    200 this rank.

    etc.

If you demand a custom rank (Title) I can give you one, but you may not like it

    Speaking of which.
You've just received your PhD. Gratzies!

How about this for a ranking system?

    1: Whiny little bitch
    2: Maggotous pustule
    3: Mangy bilgerat
    4: Vomitous mass
    5: Siphilous hound
    6: Gluttonous pig
    7: ...

    Need I continue?
    Heh.
    Kidding.

I have no ideas. Might be an interesting topic though. I'm sure that some people will have interesting ideas.

I'd like to see Perfect's ideas.

And, while we're at it. And you're going to eventually be setting up that test site to experiment with forum mods, could we get an option to not view signatures? I don't mind text signatures much (although it does get boring seeing them repeat themselves over and over.) and even some graphic sigs are ok, but I hate forums where everybody has those big ass graphic sigs and you have to look at them over and over and over and over and over. Reminds me of banner ad city.

Don't have that problem here yet, but I'm just looking ahead.

    Read it.

Why won't you add custom user titles? Give some good reasons why. It makes sense to enable custom user titles.

    So why not?

Oh sure.. Why don't you just call to my face that you don't like my banner, huh? I spend 1 hour making this banner, after a four hours of frustratingly trying to install Command and Conquer Generals Deluxe Edition, I'll have you know. Be a little more considerate of people's feelings next time, you big bully!

Because the admins giving you a custom title is sooo much more satisfactory. I can just see your title being "intelligence".. Zero.. intelligence :P.

Heh heh. While it's true that you are the only one, at present, with a graphic signature and, in fact, are the one that brought the situation to mind; I did say that it's not a problem of the present but rather a possible (likely) problem of the future.

    Hee heee.
I was so tempted to give him a hard time about not reading threads again earlier...

Anyway. I wonder if there's a way to have a custom user title and keep the posting rank thingy? Right now the location space is shown on the user pane. Perhaps that can somehow be modified to be a user title instead? We can do it unofficially right now, but the requirement (for aesthetic purposes) of linking the message to Location is limiting.

Oh. And while we're on the subject of recommendations, I forget if I already recommended this or only thought about it, but is there a way to show the title of the threads of the latest post on the main page so that we don't need to necessarily jump blind into them?

Though my php isn't what it should be, I do believe it should be possible to create an additional field, next to 'location' and 'rank title'. I'm not sure, though. That's (In)Sanity's field of expertise.

invert_nexus. If you're using firefox, you can install Adblock and block his signature image if you don't want to see it. I'm debating doing that.

*EDIT: Done so. I no longer see his sig. I just dislike big graphic images, which is my reason for desiring the "no signatures" option, but since I have Adblock, I really don't need it. Good if we get it, though, but all up to our hosts ... and there goes his avatar, too. Yay. It was making me dizzy and nauseous.

Poor Bugs Bunny. He's been turned into some stupid-looking anorexic doodle by his creator. It must feel like being betrayed by god.

No. I don't see why you can't let us have our custom user titles. There should be a logical reason to explain convincingly, eloquently, and cogently why we should have custom user titles, otherwise there is no reason not to let us have them. Right now, all you've given me is a half-joking enjoyment of your own power, and that's not in good taste.

Well, I'm always open to debate.. This sig better?

Regarding the custom title, had you read my post, you would have seen a willingness to change the system. True, I was half-joking, but I had also said, along with (In)Sanity, that we were looking into options.

Lastly, The willingness to debate improvements to the board does not implicate an obligation.

    HomoUniversalis,

    This sig better?
Wonderfully pink. Or is it pinkishly wonderful? Anyway. God damn that's pink!

Hmm.. For a person who dislikes political correctness you are quite diplomatic..
    I told you I wasn't an asshole.

Hmm.. You want to turn this into a VB forum?
Heh. I suppose I am. I think that Sci was a heavily modified Vbulletin forum. But, I don't really care about that. I like the way this forum looks, but I would like to be able to see the thread titles. The way it is now it's like playing the lottery. As the traffic here is still quite low, the issue isn't too major, but someday when you reach a level on par with Sci then one will need to manage their time here better and not just go clicking about randomly but rather pick and choose which threads to enter.

It's true that the new posts and search functions would help in this, but even so. Anyway. I suppose it's an aesthetic choice as well as functional.

    Zero,

and there goes his avatar, too. Yay. It was making me dizzy and nauseous.
Adblock is a good idea. But it blocks his avatar too? Or was that a second block. I like his avatar.

Anyway, my my. Aren't we getting pissy at our happy hosts? Por que why, monsieur? Was it the zero crack? Or is it really about custom user titles? You'd probably just waste yours on something like "Invert's a jackass" or "Lick my hairy scrotum" wouldn't you?

No. I don't see why you can't let us have our custom user titles. Interesting. Do you share your user name? Or are you schizophrenic?

"We keep forgetting privately owned forums are not democracies." -Zero (in a different frame of mind)

They don't have to do diddley, Herr Zero.

(Oh. Speaking of things you've said in the past. I've been wondering what your reaction would be if Xev were in here 'causing trouble'? You have a crush on her, don't you? Would you accuse her of acting like a jackass?)

Cracks at me over my screenname are quite old, I'll have you know. You big bully.
Just call him Homo and get it over with. You know you're dying to. Look. He's even made his sig pink... just asking for it.

    Ad.Hoc,

Type your custom titles in lieu of the signature. ? Same thing, what?
Good thinking. We're still used to thinking in terms of Sciforums structure. Over there, the user pane didn't take up so much space as it does here. The text wrapped from edge to edge and the user name, avatar, and title all fit in a narrow bar above the post. I liked it for the efficiency of utilization of space.

Here we have a different utilization of space and also are able to use sigs. So. If we want a custom user title, there's no reason not to use the sig for this purpose.

I will make this place better then every other forum out there as needed. I'm more then capable of creating this entire site from scratch, of course it would take me friggin forever.

I think it all just boils down to time. I'm still trying to get a new business off the ground at the moment, so this place has far from had my full attention.

This place will change for the better.
