I just picked up a post in Math suggesting this is the case, and after a bit of experimentation, this appears to be largely so.

It would be kind of nice if this could be fixed up pretty soon. Especially as I and others nagged InSanity to implement LaTex here, and more especially as I know he worked really hard to get it up for us.

We were all very grateful for his efforts, so please don't let them be blown away, just because we happen to have proud new owners of this site

I see what you mean. The new Admins are planning on moving to vBulletin sometime tomorrow, which presumably would require latex to be set up from scratch. As they have already worked on Latex since moving to the new servers (with collaboration with (In)Sanity AFAIK), I am sure that they'll make it one of their priorities.

I'm guessing you saw my post on the TeX thread in the Mathematics sub-section! Yes, I was trying to use it to type formulae in response to some posts in the physics sub-section, but the TeX wouldn't render properly- it kept on appearing as (unparseable or potentially dangerous TeX formatting); or a phrase similar to that. It would be useful if it could be fixed soon, I sure do like my TeX formulae! However, I do understand that moving servers etc etc is a long and hard process on a forum as large as TheScienceForum.

It seems to be working, please ensure the option "Disable BBCode in this post" is not checked when posting.

    Formulae such as this:

    F = \frac{dp}{dt}

will not appear, when wrapping them with TeX tags this appears:

OK, functionality is extremely limited. In just 5 min I found these

    \O = empty set works

\mathbb{R} = set of reals works

\frac{dx}{dy} = Leibniz notation for differential DOESN'T work

    \partial_{\mu} = indexed partial derivative DOESN'T work

    \mathcal{H} = calligraphic H works

    A \subseteq B = arbitrary subset works

    A \subsetneq B = proper subset DOESN'T work

    A \ne B = not equal DOESN'T work

    \pm A = plus or minus DOESN'T work

    \overline{x} = bar x DOESN'T work

Less than 50% functionality!! If this is replicated over the whole set this will make the Math Forum virtually unreadable.

    Please fix up .

Thank you very much, now my post above makes little sense as the TeX formulae is appearing correctly! So, just to let confused people know, it originally said (unparseable or potentially dangerous TeX formula). I'll have to try out other combinations of TeX formatting to see if it all works good.

With the new forum software, you can also double-click an existing equation and the code for that equation will be presented.
