I'd like to ask whether SkinWalker's photo caption is really necessary especially considering he is a site administrator.

A human skull wearing a Santa hat is a bit rich over the Christmas period and I fail to see the humour.

Has anyone else had a problem with this?

No problem here. I am not overly sensitive.

No, I can't say that it has bothered me in the least. It is well inline with the sites I have visited for years whereby members often adjust their existing avatars over the holiday period.

Can I ask why it bothers you so much to create a thread like this? I'm genuinely curious, as I'm rather confident that SW did not intend offense, but instead a celebration of the season.

The original Santa is up front: 2.2 million years old. The fella's in the back are his elf-posse.

Your lack of comical and anthropological insight notwithstanding, the skulls weren't, strictly speaking, human.

They are: KNM-ER 3733 (left) and KNM-ER 1470 (center) and SK 847 (right).

KNM-ER 3733 is Homo erectus and dates to about 1.78 Ma.

KNM-ER 1470 is H. rudolfensis, dating to about 1.98 Ma.

SK-847 is H. ergaster, dating to about 1.5 Ma.

The father, the son, and the Holy Habilis?

At least I didn't say, "Holy erectus!"

I think SW`s avatar looks good, whether it be Christmas or not. Why do you not sort yourself out with an avatar ? You could come up with something unique.

Huh, different stages of Human evolution, or branches of the ancestral humans that split and died off?
