    Just curious...

I opened a thread a few moments ago, and this dude's avatar took up half the screen. I thought there was some sort of pixel limit on those things.

One - Can it be corrected?
Two - I'm somewhat curious to know if this is a gap in the system found by the user, or if it was a back-end issue of some sort.

    Here's the offending post:

Whoa! Let me see what's up with that. I thought there were limitations in size.

It seems to be 576px 768px but our systems allow only 106 x 106. I suspect the allowance is because the Avatar is hosted off-site. Perhaps the board software doesn't discriminate avatars that exceed 106x106 unless their hosted.

For now (at least) I've disabled remote avatars. I'll see if there's any way to limit them later tonight. It might be a good idea to limit them anyway since this could lead to linking to some really strange things and spam notifications (accessing images logs to the server it sits on, etc.). Indeed, this could simply be a spammer checking whether our traffic is worth the effort of infiltrating us for sneaky ads & such.

(In)Sanity, do you want to re-enable remote avatars or stay disabled?

Well that's a first, lets leave them off for now. People can upload their approved size avatars here. I suspect some people have linked to animated avatars, and that might cause a problem. We'll see.
Pleased to meet you. Hope you guess my name
