Thread: Doing updates

Because there is no good time of day or night to do updates I thought July 4th would be a good time/date. I figure most of the US visitors will be watching things blow up and that at least will minimize the number of visitors that can't reach the site while I do much needed updates.

The server may also be moving in the next week or so to a better box. This could have the potential of extended down time. Not to fear however as the site will be back as quickly as possible. I always count on Murphy's law to hit however.

OK, I think I'm done with updates for today.

has become unreadable, for some reason, after the updates. I don't know if this is because of the updates, or because of my computer, but I suspect it's the updates since LaTeX in posts from before the update is still readable. Anyone else having this problem? Or just me?

Doesn't the server generate gif images? I don't know how it works. :?

It uses ghost-script (Post script) to render GIF images. There is a chance one of the fonts is not working right. Can you post some more examples that are more noticeably difficult to see ?

I switched to PNG format for now, it will cause some delays loading tex based posts that have not yet been rendered in PNG format. I'm still trying to find out why the GIF's got sooo fuzzy. I think it's using the wrong font(s). I'm just not sure why.

I assume of course it can be made larger, on my screen at least this is very very hard to read.

Probably depends on the resolution you're running, and moniter size. It all looks fine to me.

I think so, though not sure. My latex use is limited to high school level stuff.

Sorry to be annoying, but also, the clock for the site doesn't seem to run to 24 hours, either. I'm losing 2.5 hours or so per day according to it.

yeah, it's off for me too. It's currently 5:37 P.M. here and it's posting 7:37A.M. -8 GMT

Wow, ok that's really weird. New server soon.

I think the time thing is fixed. 8:21P.M. -8 GMT

Plan on a server outage tomorrow (Tues July 14th) for several hours. Going to be moving the site to a new home. Hardware upgrades to follow at a later date.
