This section seemed the most appropriate to be placed in as star signs are a belief system in the unseen.

I am proposing to perfrom a scientific study to establish once and for all if star signs are somewhat real and influence us, or just that people who do beleive in it treat people as they are taught by these 'star signs' to get along with people. My hypothesis being that assuming people on majoirty act like their star sign, then the reason being is due to people's influence and treating them that way through the developmental stages f childhood, where the beleif of such would be established at the concrete operational stage. I was wondering, could as many of you as possible tell me your star signs to then I will analyse your response attitudes in posts and try to prove this hypothesis.

I propose to ask people on the internet (namely here as I know some of you), and people whom I can physically talk to.

I am 110% aware that there will be a lot of bias against the internet and the face to face encounter, for many reasons, being evolutionary, circumstantial, developmental, cognitive, basically a heck of a lot of very logical criticisms.

Please help me out here and offer any criticism that you have, I'd really like to finish this study and then post the results here on this forum.

Leo if thats any help to you. I would just like to add that i think star signs and all the mystic stuff surrounding it is a load of bollocks before someone starts barking at me. There are other things to consider here though such as peoples school starting age. Perhaps starting school 6 months after someone else would produce a more well rounded person seeing as they have had extra time to grow at home away from any schooling pressures, that just a guess, but something else to consider.

Sagittarius. Good point Cat. Both astrology being bollocks (love that word) and the school going age thing. I am still amazed at how some people still believe such nonsense.

What Cat and Kalster said. I have a very good friend who makes a living as an astrologer and he has for years tried to convince us that there is some merit in his ideas. Being a lovely, otherwise scientifically-minded chappie, he has already undertaken a project to see if astrological influence upon life can be demonstrated. We're trying to help him with methodology (double-blind, null hypothesis, sample groups etc), and, the more one looks into it, the more tenuous it appears.

I wish him luck with it, though, because if he is successful, we might once and for all be able to lay this ghost.

I'm year of the Fire Horse, if that's helpful at all. :P

Taurus, I think. I'm not really into all this astrology crap.
Whence comes this logic: no evidence = false?

I am a Gemini. I fit the characteristics of Geminis to a T. As a student I was pretty good at nailing down people's star sign using cold reading techniques. However, I have absolutely no belief in astrology. I think studies have been conducted that verify zero correlation, but good luck with it anyway.

Cancer in western, Yang Wood Rat in Chinese - though the Rat's fixed element is water, and I was born in the month of the Horse and the hour of the Rabbit.

I used to be into this stuff when I was in middle school and highschool - I like to think of it as a time when I was still deeply interested in behavior but hadn't been exposed to actual behavioral ecology yet, so this was my outlet. *shrugs* I've always found personality tests to be fun.

But if your hypothesis is that people follow their star sign due to treatment as a child, then that would also be saying that children are treated according to their star sign. And for that to be so, it's more important that our parents believe in astrology than anything else. So you should also be asking whether the people who raised us put any stock in this stuff. And no, the people who raised me did not.
