Ancient Roman Religion

I am reading an old book about the history of Rome. There is a section discussing the development of their religion, starting with borrowing from Etruscans and later identifying their pantheon with that of the Greeks. In passing it noted that Apollo was simply taken over. Is there any reference to a more complete history?

Think Stephen Fry has written some books about these subjects in general.

I have found this reading of his from his own Mythos book.

Edit: not particularly familiar with that Pandora story but I did guess or hazily recollect its ending -only Elpis (Hope) was left in the Jar:)
