I thought this was interesting. The way I saw this was as an article about a scientific study that religion says proves the accuracy of the Bible but that which the News says proves the bible's inaccuracy. Science is stuck in the middle since the study was not undertaken to prove anything about the bible at all..

The story:Breaking News: Science Disproves the Bible | Henry Center

    Excerpt:
It was the scientific paper itself that raised the question of the Bible. Oddly, in an extensively footnoted paper, they offer no Biblical references. The journalists took that up for themselves; but they (or their editors) didn’t think it worthwhile to question the scientists’ premise.
I can't decide who's side journalism is on. More likely they take the side that sells newspapers, magazines, etc.. Hate to think science would depend on the news media for getting the word out. This whole thing played right into religion's hands with science unwittingly being favorably hailed by a religious group.

This remains a serious issue with religious groups who don't claim to take the Bible literally, they are to choose their own interpretations, thus any scientific evidence or facts that may arise are simply incorporated into their religious views and often proclaimed as supporting their beliefs - even when it remains clear such support isn't evident to anyone else.

If you look at the homepage of the Christian Science Monitor the first thing you notice is a request to Rethink the News. They seem to stay away from evangelicalizing the news but usually there's at least one article pertaining to religion. Regardless, just having the word Christian in the title along with the request makes me wonder whether that news organization is guilty, as I'm sure many may be, of putting their slant on the news. I'm not a member there, it's only online I think, and haven't seen it on a news stand lately.

My point is if they can shape the news then so can anybody. Rethink the News is good advice but I wouldn't let them do it for me.
