Wikipedia covered the basics, but not to the depth (puns...) that this article dives...:
Noah's Biblical Flood Actually Happened, Suggests New Evidence - KHQ Right Now - News and Weather for Spokane and North Idaho |

The article has very strong implications that Ballard is a YEC that was intentionally seeking "proof" of a Global Biblical Flood and Noah.
But what I've been looking up off of this here interweb does not offer much in that interpretation.

I have several obvious problems with the article, including the claims that his studies provide evidence of a Global Flood (Somehow outweighing the problem of volcanic ash deposits that are ancient and would have been swept away without leaving a trace by a flood) but also the very strong religious slant.

    So, who is Robert Ballard?

It's hard to say how much the reporter is reading into what Ballard said. I don't see anything wrong with looking for evidence of a flood that might be the basis for a Biblical story. But, 7000 years would be a long time for a story to be passed down by oral history. It doesn't actually support the Biblical version of events, which said the flood was caused by 40 days and 40 nights of rain.

It's a poor article. That the Black sea suddenly flooded in response to post ice age sea level rise is pretty much a matter of fact. Given the coast was probably populated around the giant fresh water lake and would have been wiped out in a matter of weeks isn't a stretch at all. Whether it was connected with ancient myths about a great flood is mostly speculation and will most likely never be known.

    I think that's a severe understatement.

The article is aptly sourced from Yahoo.com. If ever there was a dead giveaway...

Noah's flood story isn't even really Noah's. It's Gilgamesh's. We know that the biblical flood story is a myth, whether there were real floods or not. No one named Noah built an ark. It never happened.

Very true, I once read an ancient tablet titled "Local Man Set Out To Build Ark, Ends Up Using It As An Animal Kennel"
