People do it all the time. Here's the skinny, theists are only believers in God and in no way shape or form can they also stake the claim that God is real. That distinction is left to, um, well, if there's a word for them then I can't think of it. Those people are not theists, they are somewhere between a theist and should I say scientist. For lack of a better term I will call these persons pseudo-theists, delving in pseudo-science.

This is what my Apple dictionary defines pseudo-science as: a collection of beliefs or practices mistakenly regarded as being based on scientific method. IMO, this is a pretty good description of religion also. Alas, no God claimant can be a true theist or believer. A believer cannot speak of God with absolute certainty. Unfortunately many people feel theists have to prove belief real and by it's very nature, that is impossible. Once a theist claims to know that not only God, but any part of their religion that relates to God, is in fact real, then I think they cease to be theists and are deserving of tough interrogation.

    Yes they can.

Unfortunately, many believers conflate unswerving, wholehearted faith with objective, incontrovertible evidence. Challengers also mix this up.

Asking for evidence for faith is an oxymoron. As is claiming that your faith is evidence of something other than itself.

No they can't but they believe they can.
