I have a debate tournament tomorrow and I have to deliver a persuasive speech. I need your input on the speech.

Albert Einstein once said, “You must learn to distinguish between what is true, and what is real.” In this age, truth has an entirely new meaning. What is true for someone may not be true for another person. This leads into an actual definition of what is true. Is it simply an opinion of perceived events? For an individual, maybe. Religious belief works off what is true and what is not true within the world and the universe. Often they work off of their own truth and discount any others who may claim otherwise. Unfortunately for some of these individuals, that is not the way science works. Many students who I have encountered seem to think that science should be a democracy. They believe that science should not teach the theory of evolution and that the evolutionary theory is a made up concept to try to remove their God from the classroom. This is not the case at all. The scientific agenda is not one made out of spite. In fact, no one needs to remove their faith in order to be a scientist. The main requirement is to change your beliefs to suit what is evident with continual scientific data. In other words, to go along with what Albert Einstein once said, you must find what is real and you shouldn’t let your personal beliefs or what we currently understand about our universe stand in the way of reality. If we base our existence on various personal “truths” then we will be unable to determine fact from fiction or right from wrong.
As part of the human race, we are far from perfect and our understanding about the universe is very limited. However, if we find good scientific evidence that may alter a structure of beliefs that we may have had, it is up to us to adapt to those beliefs. Young Earth Creationists do just the opposite. They are a fundamental group of Christians who tend to stick to their personal beliefs and no amount of scientific evidence will be able to alter those beliefs. This is where the conflict between scientific research and religion comes in and what should be taught in our schools. Should we go with the scientific approach and focus on what we can understand through a process called the Scientific Method or should we focus on our personal beliefs without even attempting to alter our own awareness of what Albert Einstein referred to as reality?
The scientific understanding is broad in its definition. Some refer to any theory which is based on the scientific method as science. While a theory may have various different meanings depending on the context, it remains to be the highest level that something within science can achieve. Contrary to popular belief, a law is simply an equation which describes a rule that the universe abides by and is not a theory which has been proven to be true. A scientific theory is significantly different in it’s application in comparison to the layman’s theory which is, by definition, a best guess. The scientific theory simply explains why facts happen and those theories are used as a model for explaining the facts. Some scientific facts which are evident that I will use three example to explain my point. They are as followed; All living organism’s are comprised of cells. Cell theory simply explains why the cells exist and act the way they do; The second example I will mention is that gravity is a force that pulls things together. The theory of relativity which Albert Einstein brought to the table is one of the current models which explain the function of gravity. The third and final example is evolution. Evolution simply explains that mutations and change happens within every organism. It does ‘not’ explain that we evolved from apes. It does state however, that significant change in our characteristics happen. Evolution which involves speciation is simply a series of mutations which happen over time. Thus, Evolution is a fact. Organisms do change over time. The theory of evolution through natural selection is simply the model we use to describe the evolutionary process. Since the Scientific Methods insertion into our culture, we have expanded our knowledge of the universe more than we could have ever hoped for. We are currently living in a world built by science.
If we focused on our personal beliefs to dictate the universe around us, we will most likely stop searching for the answer because we would think that we already had the answer to begin with. If this is the case, then why search for an answer to something that we already know? We must always assume that the universe is unknown. We must never assume that we know the answer and what is truly going on. If our idea’s and thoughts in regards to a certain concept never changed, then our world around us would be stagnate. What keeps our world together is the concept of change. If change is essential than why maintain a sense of belief where we ‘assure’ ourselves that we are right about the issue in question?
In conclusion, science has brought us change within society do to a process called the Scientific Method. Without the Scientific Method, we would not be very far in our scientific understanding of the universe. The only reason we have come so far is do to our willingness to change our belief based on the evidence and not on our own personal truths which we have relied on since time memorial. Even if we do not understand where a group of scientists are coming from, we must trust in their knowledge of the subject. They are experts in their respective field and if they think of a theory which may conflict with what we have previously known about the universe, it is up to us to alter our beliefs to be in line with what the majority of scientists are saying. If a concept reaches the point of a scientific theory, then trust that theory as the appropriate model of which we should gauge our understanding.

    Thank you for your time.

Make sure any redundant phrases like "I will mention" or "overall" or "I personally believe" are out. These tend to bore the audience. Also "group of scientists" is singular, so the verb wouldn't be "are" but "is".

    Pretty good, verzen. Good luck!

P.S. make sure you dont have choppy sentences. it makes a speech sound very non-flowing, and it also becomes something of an annoyance

These guidelines are as good as any, but will likely accomplish little in a days time. Unless you are of similar mind as myself. This is unlikely, given your loquacious speech.

What is true for someone may not be true for another person. This leads into an actual definition of what is true. Is it simply an opinion of perceived events? For an individual, maybe. Many of these individuals do not seem to trust the experts and they would rather trust in their own personal truth no matter how much evidence is available to the contrary. Our understanding is built on evidence and if our scientific knowledge and understanding remains stagnate, then we would not be where we are today. This is true even if our personal beliefs get in the way of our current scientific understanding. In other words, to go along with what Albert Einstein once said; we must find what is real and we shouldn’t let our personal beliefs or what we currently understand about our universe stand in the way of reality. The scientific understanding is broad in its definition. Some refer to any theory which is based on the scientific method as science. While a theory may have various different meanings depending on the context, it remains to be the highest level that something within science can achieve. The model that many individuals seem to hold is that in order for something to become a law, it must go through various steps. However, a law is outside of those steps. A Law can simply be broken down into an equation which always holds true and can describe a rule that the universe must abide by and is not the same as a theory which has been proven to be accepted by the scientific community. The theory of relativity which Albert Einstein brought to the table is one of the current models which explain the function of gravity. The Law of gravity is simply the equation which can predict the force that various environments create. The third and final example is evolution. If we focused on our personal beliefs to dictate the universe around us, we will most likely stop searching for the answer because we would think that we already had the answer to begin with. If this is the case, then why search for an answer to something that we already know? We are aware that there is more to the universe that we don't understand. We once thought the Earth was the center of the Universe. It was the truth that we came to know. Galileo was excommunicated and imprisoned for saying otherwise.

    Informative speech

Imagine living in Russia and being late for work in the dead of winter. The only way to make it on time is to take the Lefortovo Tunnel. As you’re driving along, you lose control of your vehicle and crash into the solid concrete wall and every driver which is currently traveling the tunnel doesn’t seem to acknowledge your existence. This event is one of 50 crashes which can happen in a single day. The tunnel itself spans 3,150 meters long and it is one of the longest tunnels in all of Europe. It is located underneath the Yauza river which runs over the tunnel and has been known to leak water into the tunnel from time to time. When the temperature reaches negative 38 degree’s Celsius like it did during the winter of 2005, the water will then freeze changing the road to black ice. This can make for some very dangerous conditions. This occurrence causes a large amount of car wrecks to happen. In a single day, the amount of car wrecks which took place is phenomenal. Yet the Russian government refuses to take action to fix this problem. The questions most people ask when being informed about the Lefortovo Tunnel is as follows; What is the nick name of the tunnel and how did it gain that name, what are the dangers of driving in this tunnel, and why does the Russian Government refuse to fix this problem?

The tunnel of Death is an alternative name for the Lefortovo Tunnel and is coined after the tunnel became one of the most dangerous tunnels to have ever been conceived. Even though the tunnel is named ‘the Tunnel of Death,’ it does little to persuade drivers from entering it. No matter how high the mortality rate for the tunnel is, people will continue to traverse the tunnel for a quicker route through the city.

The tunnel itself is extremely dangerous. Since the tunnel opened in 2003, there have been numerous crashes within the tunnel. The crashes themselves have been reported by the government to be caused by either speeding or switching lanes. However, this is simply not the case. The majority of crashes happen because of the bad planning and engineering of the tunnel. It is so bad that the Russian government does not even wish to acknowledge the tunnels bad foundation.

The Russian Government even refuses to fix the tunnel. This refusal to fix the tunnel is do to economic values and other variables. For instance, the river that the tunnel is under was placed after the tunnel had been built. Because of this reasoning, it makes fixing the tunnel quite difficult. In order to fix the tunnel, it would require large amounts of resources that Russia can not currently afford. Even though the government knows how dangerous driving through the tunnel is, they refuse to close it down.

In conclusion, the tunnel known as the tunnel of death is very dangerous during the winter. The Russian government refuses to do anything about the tunnel do to the amount of funds that it would cost and the way the tunnel was engineered make it difficult. Because of the bad engineering, the Lefortovo Tunnel, also known as ‘The Tunnel of Death’ remains to be one of the most dangerous tunnels in the world.

Is this speech written by you verzen?

I havent bothered to read it incase it has been and tis just you making your usual sweeping statements.

Because we all know THAT is a logical fallacy. (He must be wrong in his persuasive speech simply because he makes sweeping statements.)

In this age, truth has an entirely new meaning.
This assertion is not demonstrated in your speech. It is unproven and probably irrelevant. Remove it.
This leads into an actual definition of what is true.
Perhaps it does, but you do not offer the definition.

Many of these individuals do not seem to trust the experts
Many of which individuals. You appear to mean many people. Say so.

    and understanding remains stagnate
    Stagnant, not stagnate.

In other words, to go along with what Albert Einstein once said
Your audience will remember your opening remarks. It is sufficient to say "to go along with Einstein".

If we base our existence on various personal “truths”
This makes no sense. Did you mean, "If we base the way we conduct our lives on various personal truths"?

However, if we find good scientific evidence that may alter a structure of beliefs that we may have had, it is up to us to adapt to those beliefs.
Crap. Do you want us to alter the structure of beliefs or adapt to those beliefs. The two things are diametrically opposed. This is just wooly writing.

Your next paragraph exhibits a badly flawed understanding of the roles of Law and theory. I shall take a single example.

You seem to think there is an equation that describes the behaviour of bodies in a gravitational field. The Law of gravity is simply the equation which can predict the force that various environments create.
Nonsense. There is no single equation. Newton's equations are different from Einstein's equations. MOND's equations are different from Einstein's. Your conceptual understanding is wrong.

Galileo was excommunicated and imprisoned for saying otherwise.
Wrong. He was not excommunicated and he was placed under house arrest, not imprisoned.

It's due to, not do to.

    Enough already.

There is a single equation that actually can determine the gravitational pull of various planets by plugging in the variables.
Wrong. He was not excommunicated and he was placed under house arrest, not imprisoned.
    Yes, he was excommunicated.

I already delivered my speech infront of a physics major and he gave me a excellent remarks.. not perfect, but excellent.

    F = GMm/R²
That is the universal equation for gravity.

Force = Gravitational constant * mass of object * mass of object / R squared (R is the distance from the objects from the center of said objects)

Wrong. That is the formula that arises from Newton's work. Newton was wrong. The equation gives a good approximation under conditions we would consider to be normal. However, it does not accurately describe gravity. For that you require Einstein's field equations as set out in his 1915 publication on General Relativity.

Beyond this there are suspicions, based upon the Pioneer anomaly, that there are other factors not yet fully recognised, understood or quantified.

Therefore to claim that the inaccurate equation you quote is the Law of Gravity is a mistake. That is what I pointed out, that this statement is incorrect. "The theory of relativity which Albert Einstein brought to the table is one of the current models which explain the function of gravity. The Law of gravity is simply the equation which can predict the force that various environments create."
