The Pope recently said that Condom use caused HIV in Africa and increased pregnancy rate. Do you agree? Disagree? Think he should fuck off? Worship him?
    I'm curious...

First of all, why does the Pope think this? Do condoms break, are condoms an effective deterrent against HIV infection, and why are the choices so extreme?

I think he's denying a lot of objective science that suggest the opposite.

I'd guess, like many religious folks, his argument would be that availability of condoms will encourage more people having sex, and that will outweigh the obvious reduction of aids transmission and pregnancy that those using condoms will have.

I think the evidence suggest that most people will have sex anyhow, especially if they aren't sex educated, something else the catholic church usually discourages.

I'd shove a condom on his head and inflate it with nerve gas. I'd then etch 'condoms kill' on his grave stone. Seriously I hope the vatican city burns to the ground, but it won't because its one of the three Illuminati cities so meh...

I don't know. Sometimes what goes on in Africa is so appalling that it feels hopeless to me.

We can object to "the Pope's" no sex solution by saying it will not work. But when I look at the situation in Africa and the things that are happening their I have my doubts that the condom solution is going to work either.

What will help the African people is none of this Western politics and policy rhetoric but people going there and being a part of a change in their way of life towards something that works better. I think it is only the opinions of those that do this that count and words of everyone else is just hot air.

And by the way, I say this even though I have no sympathy whatsoever for peculiar moral ideas of the Catholics. The fact of the matter is that I am not in Africa and I am not going to Africa and so my disagreement with the Catholics on this is just hot air when it comes to Africa.

i disagree with the pope, however i respect my elders so i'm not going to literaly tell him to fuck off. essentially my position is the same as mitchellmckain's in that my opinion is just hot air blowing against the solid rock that is catholicism, i'll just have to wait till some earthquake splits that rock open again like it did when they broke away from the eastern orthadox religion, only then will any chance of changing policy be present.
    physics: accurate, objective, boring
chemistry: accurate if physics is accurate, slightly subjective, you can blow stuff up
biology: accurate if chemistry is accurate, somewhat subjective, fascinating
religion: accurate if people are always right, highly subjective, bewildering

Enough hot air can errode the rock. But is it worth the time and effort?
