Gosh....is that really what you think life is? Chaotic, hard and meaningless? And a 'hard test'????
Well if that's your attitude about life, then I think it best you avoid having children and passing on those negative beliefs that life is chaotic hard and meaningless!
Quality of life depends on awareness and perception of it, but more importantly it depends on your opinions, ideas and beliefs about it. Because this is what influences how we perceive and experience life
It is not external life which determines it's qualities, because there is an abundance of joys and woes to pick and choose from, it's actually your inner life which determines your quality of life. It is the mind which selects it's experiences and it's viewpoint depending on what we have pre-determined about it through our beliefs.
The mind is the most powerful tool you have. If you think and believe that life is chaotic, hard and meaningless, then it will always present itself as such to you.
This form of thinking blocks any possible enjoyment or fulfillment of life because you are blinded and ignorant of it's potential joys, because of this belief you have about life.
I wish more people would understand the above formula and at least experiment with it, because really we people make our own misery in life by being ignorant of and misunderstanding what is actually going on and what is really causing hardships and misery.
If you could just spend a week telling yourself constantly that life is an abundance of joy and make yourself consciously see all of it's potential happiness and eliminate this negative outlook. It's quite possible that you will begin to change your life completely and you will begin to have more and more moments where the simple joys of life will begin to open themselves up to you. They were there all the time, but before you didn't see them because they didn't form your opinion of life.
The mind has a terrible habit of wanting to slot itself into a particular viewpoint, and to do this, it then must eliminate or conceal other possibilities, in order to maintain this viewpoint.
I am describing the above formula in different ways, and I'm banging on about it, because I am hoping that just one person at least might get it and go aaaaahhhhhaa!
If you spend your life focusing on the material plane, and all that matters to you is the acquiring of certain material goods, such as that nice house, that flash car, that mega-games console, those designer jeans, the status that goes with such etc etc etc. Then yes life will become a meaningless monotonous struggle, because real satisfaction is never granted because there is always something else on the list to acquire. This is because such things as these do not give real and lasting meaning and happiness.
I will be happy when I get that car. The car is got, you are happy for a short while, but then there is something else which catches your attention........and now the idea of happiness lays in something else which requires all your effort to get....and then you get it.........and are happy for a short while.....but then something else catches your eye....and on and on....to seek happiness in material things is pointless, because happiness flits from one thing to the other like a ghostly butterfly and never settling...
How many people stop looking for happy and just accept what is already out there. And there is plenty of happiness and joy to be got, if you know where to look.
In the sunset. In the Dawn chorus. In the sparkles of the waves of the sea. In the smell of your favourite food cooking. In that park watching children play. Seeing your lovers smiling face. Watching a stranger help another stranger out.....the list of potential day to day happiness which requires no effort other than observation and experience of is endless.
This is effortless happiness, because your mind is open to all it's possibilities, instead of being shut, because it thinks life is hard and meaningless.
It's through these joyful experiences above that meaning in life is given because there is something deeper and more lasting to be found in them. The sunset reminds you of fire and warmth, the sparkles on the sea become jewels. The children in the park become the future. Seeing a stranger help another becomes hope.
Meaning is that which expands on the initial experience and gives a deeper understanding about life and what is really important.
When you're on your death bed taking your last breaths, and if you have all your faculties intact, what will you be thinking about?
The big house? The flash car? The designer jeans?
Or perhaps memories of sunsets, bejeweled seas, loved ones happy faces, your children laughing and all those other memories of love and happiness which imprinted themselves on your memory because they were filled with the strong emotion of joy and love.
I had a child and I work with children because I want to share the happiness and joy that life has to offer.
Of course life can present itself as a struggle and sometimes there are unavoidable difficulties from time to time but with that quality of happiness and joy which comes from the simple effortless pleasures of life, any of it's stresses or strains become greatly lessened. Instead of becoming mountains they remain molehills.
evo4ata - I seriously hope you will change your outlook on life and make it more balanced and positive, especially if you intend to have children.

Why do I want to bring a human into this cruel world?
Because nature somehow compels us to. We need to eat to survive. We need the society of family and friends. We feel the need to find someone of the opposite sex to share our lives with. We feel a need to have a baby. It is in our genetic information.
