Atheist and agnostic are neither religions nor mutually exclusive.
One describes a lack of belief in god(s) or, with some, an active belief that god(s) do not exist.
The second describes knowledge of god(s).
You could say the same for Pastafari, or some forms of Buddhism. Let it be "Form of religion, or lack thereof". We all get the meaning anyway.
and isn't Shiite part of islam ?
i did not mean this to be a thread were you point out all its flaws![]()
oh well...
I might vote if you get the spelling of atheist correct.Originally Posted by ronan

As mentioned above atheism is not a religion even when it's spelled correctly.
Good gawd people. We understand the question well enough to answer it. Answer it.
Agreed!![]()
why the need for pigeon-holing ? next thing you know we'll be asked to wear a certain colour star depending on our religion or lack thereof
Me? I am an agnostic, or an equivalent word meaning I believe in God, but not in religion. The world makes much more sense that way.
I voted for agnostic, even though the accurate description would be atheist. Agnostics are Atheists in most of its usages. All conclusions are certainly agnostic.
You seem to actually be a non-denominational theist. An agnostic position is one that knowledge of god(s) is not present. Although, it would be possible to be an agnostic-theist, which would essentially say that you are without knowledge of god(s) but believe that one or more god(s) exist in the cosmos. Such a position would be illogical and without reason, however. Belief in that which you admit no knowledge -even a child who believes in Santa has knowledge of Santa, albeit of a deceptive origin (parents telling them of Santa; a guy in a suit pretending to be Santa at the mall; etc.).Originally Posted by Liongold

That is a narrow definition that would not only exclude many forms of Buddhism but many forms of Christianity as well. This is a definition of religion that is used by many Christians to mean something bad that should be avoided.Originally Posted by SkinWalker
I very much like your introduction of this particular definition of religion because to points to a similarity which I have pointed out between Christianity and Buddhism in the following:
http://www.astahost.com/Anti-religio...ty-t12626.html
In many of the definitions I've seen, 'application' was not used as part of the definition, although 'practice' and 'state of being' were used along with religion being the belief or a set of beliefs.Originally Posted by SkinWalker
Structured religion would be a better term(such as churches and the social aspect of religion) to use I would hope.Religion is a social system whose participants avow belief in a supernatural agent
religion in its self as (Q) said is belief in a supernatural power such as god.

Its a simple question... it does not matter in the least just cool to see what religion everyone is affiliated with! gosshhh
