The Truth Shall Make you Free, p. 285, 1943 edition by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (Jehovah's Witnesses)

"Man cannot by airplane or rockets or other means get above the air envelope which is about our earthly globe..."

I'll make this as brief as I can. I am writing this so that anyone who would like to, may present a few pieces of information to Jehovah's Witnesses who come to their door. This may very well prevent them from coming back. Also I believe it's important to point out exactly why faith is bullshit.

As a former JW publisher (door solicitor) I have a few insights. An important one is that Jehovah's Witnesses keep fairly detailed records of the neighborhoods that they proselytize in. Saying "I'm not interested" will cause them to move on to your neighbors (after perhaps some infamous persistance), but it will not prevent them from coming back usually. However, certain homes are deemed too risky to return to, notably ones occupied by people with solid information about the Jehovah's Witnesses. Thus I present here a very brief history of the failure of JW's doomsday prophecies from their own books.

1902 "In view of this strong Bible evidence concerning the Times of the Gentiles, we consider it an established truth that the final end of the kingdoms of this world, and the full establishment of the kingdom of God, will be accomplished by the end of A.D. 1914." (The Time Is At Hand, 1902 edition, p. 99)

Contrast that statement to another made in the prophesied year of 1914:

1914 "Studying God's Word, we have measured the 2520 years, the seven symbolic times, from that year 606 B.C. and have found that it reached down to October, 1914, as nearly as we were able to reckon. We did not say positively that this would be the year." (Watchtower, November 1, 1914, p. 325)

So 1914 came and went, and now in 1915 they predicted this was the year of the end... Note the use again of "established truth":

1915 "In view of this strong Bible evidence concerning the Times of the Gentiles, we consider it an established truth that the final end of the kingdoms of this world, and the full establishment of the kingdom of God, will be accomplished near the end of A.D. 1915. (The Time Is At Hand, 1915 edition, p. 99)

Here is a very curious quote, merely 2 years after the above failed prediction:

1917 'No doubt Satan believed the Millennial Kingdom was due to be set-up in 1915...Be that as it may, there is evidence that the establishment of the Kingdom in Palestine will probably be in 1925, ten years later than we once calculated.' (Studies In The Scriptures, Vol 7, The Finished Mystery, p. 128)

So here we've established that Satan (Watchtower?) misled us into believing that 1915 was the year! Now we have 1925 as the year:

1918 "Therefore we may confidently expect that 1925 will mark the return of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the faithful prophets of old, particularly those named by the Apostle in Hebrews 11, to the condition of human perfection." (Millions Now Living Will Never Die, p. 89)

1924 "The year 1925 is a date definitely and clearly marked in Scriptures, even more clearly than that of 1914. (Watchtower 1924, p. 211)

Again the predicted year for the destruction of the world and JW’s triumphant victory came and went. This incredible statement followed in 1926:

1926 "Some anticipated that the work would end in 1925, but the Lord did not state so. The difficulty was that the friends inflated their imaginations beyond reason; and that when their imaginations burst asunder, they were inclined to throw away everything." (Watchtower 1926 p. 232.)

What balls! I wonder why their imaginations were inflated? Unbelievably revisionist, but still many remained faithful.

I grew up in a Witness household in the 70's and 80's mainly. In my teens I rebelled against the planet and was a pretty angry young man. At the time I left, the Watchtower had ceased making specific year predictions, and moved onto a new tactic. They reinterpreted what the value of 1914 was, and tought that within the lifetime of those able to recollect the events of 1914 the end would come!

1973 Peace and Security chapter 7 paragraph 28:

“Those who remember the events of 1914 are getting up in years now. Many of their number have already died. But, Jesus assures us, within “this generation,” before they have all died, destruction of this wicked system of things will come.”

1984 "Some of that "generation (of 1914)" could survive until the end of the century. But there are many indications that "the end" is much closer than that!" (The Watchtower, March 1, 1984 pp. 18-19)

1989 You can live forever on a Paradise on Earth Chapter 18 paragraph 8:

“After drawing attention to the many things that have marked the period from 1914 onward, Jesus said: “This generation will by no means pass away until all these things [including the end of this system] occur.” (Matthew 24:34, 14) Which generation did Jesus mean? He meant the generation of people who were living in 1914. Those persons yet remaining of that generation are now very old. However, some of them will still be alive to see the end of this wicked system. So of this we can be certain: Shortly now there will be a sudden end to all wickedness and wicked people at Armageddon.”

After I left the faith, this changed again out of necessity. The generation that witnessed any events of 1914 are either dead or soon to be dead. Watchtower has now changed yet again, and from my understanding merely preaches that we are in the final days, and that the end will come soon.

Thank you for reading this, and I hope that this info will prove helpful somehow. Keep in mind that most JW's are unaware of this info, and bringing this up to them may very well have you marked down on their lists as a home to avoid!

Well thanks for the info. I read this a while ago. I just didn't have an comments. And I finally decided that I didn't want you to think you were being ignored.

I did study with the Jehova Witnesses for a while, but their extreme exclusivity was impossible for me to swallow. Thus I strive for the opposite, to find the most inclusive interpretation of Christianity that I can.
