    You are Bill Smith.

You are an ex-Nasa Engineer. When Nasa lost it's funding for your pet projects, you got disgruntled and left. You got a new job with a multi-national company funded by a billionaire.

He funds your pet project (to make an orion ship with bombs that aren't nukes but just as powerful with no radiactive fallout). In return all he asks for you is to raise an alien female. Which you have done sucessfully for 20 years.

Your wife named her Evelyn, since you couldn't think of a name. Evelyn is light blue, with dark blue hair and red eyes, looking human otherwise. She has superpowers. The ability to levitate ANY metal. She can also orbit metal around her, if she spins. She can also levitate herself and fly.

She can absorb any amount of electricty, which makes her superhmanly strong and durable, but she will lose charge while doing superhuman things that would normally kill her (not counting flying slow enough where no damage is done, or orbiting/levitating metals). While charged up, she would shock people that touched her. To decharge she can shoot lightning bolts out her palms. So if she absorbed 50 bolts of lighting, each palm would shoot out 25 bolts worth, and she would be decharged. With only her metal levitation/orbit and flight power.

You have kept her a secret by living on a remote facility on an island in the Pacific ocean. But Evelyn has expressed a desire to visit the world.

Evelyn's personality: Found in an alien ship in a birthing chamber, she could talk as a baby. She calls you her Master. Or she did until you told her to stop calling you that. Now she calls you 'Dad'. You only have to tell her to do something once, and she will do it, unlike your biological son Brian, who is 8 years old (Evelyn is 20 now). Evelyn seems to never forget anything. Since to you, you are her Master, she will do anything you say, even if she doesn't like it. To her, it is her sole purpose in life. Whatever rules you give her she will follow. Things that you forbid she won't do, but if she really wants to do something, she will ask you repeatedly to give her permission.

Since you are easygoing, you have allowed her to ask for a leave of absence off the island. To keep her from asking often, you have let her do it once a year. So she has asked once, for two years straight. The third year is here and she has reminded you 2 weeks in advance that she is going to ask you again, at the same time to the day and second she did the last 2 years (she has really good memory).

You are near through working on an orion ship equipped with a hyperdrive reversed engineered from the ship Evelyn came on. You want to take her on the ship to find her people. But if you did that, you will have to put off letting Evelyn visit Earth, not to mention you don't know what you will find out there.

All you know is Evelyn belongs to species that have total loyalty to whoever they view as master, and have no real concept of right and wrong other than what their master specifies, which fortunately is you in this case.

So how do you handle this? Will you make her put on makeup so as not to stand out? Will you send agents with her for protection?

Will you just forgo this and take her up in the orion ship to find her people? Your orion ship has AG from near almost constant thrust at sublight speeds. In hyperdrive you will be weightless unless you waste fuel thrusting the Orion (don't need to do since you're at hyperspeed.

If you ignore Evelyns request, she will be sullen for a while but she will get over it. She would never hurt her Master anyway. But if you do decide to let her visit around Earth, you should give her some rules and a time to return back to the island.

You would have to give her some guiding rules, since she ONLY really listens to you. Other than that, she will do whatever she wants.

So again, I ask, how do you handle this? What action do you take? What would you do? Or not do

I'd send her home to wherever she came from or telephone her parents wherever they are and ask them what to do or to come and pick her up because you can't handle her.

Yeah, but you are in the science fiction section.
You might notice that you can smell the trashcan section very easily from here.

A point must be made clear.. This is a subsection of a science forum.
That many of us might enjoy a fiction of scientific or astronomical interests.. but we know it to be fiction.. Is clear.
~ When you have the want to write a work of 'fiction' If it's interesting, well written, has some basses of science we comprehend..
and is found and read.. You as a writer can take the story any place you want.. As to how far you go is up to you.. will it be a popular novel.. Good luck with that.. Liken it to asking.. Why did Harry Potter work ? cos it did..

    Well said Astromark.
My comment was a bit harsh.
It is odd from me because I actually enjoy Lorbo's threads once they get rolling.
    They can be quite speculative.

Extraordinary circumstances to find myself under, so difficult to hypotheses, but I’d probably trade her off to a traveling circus freak show for some magic beans.

Either that or do a "Woody Allen" move on her.

Let her know about your plans to revisit her people. You don't know what she will think about it until you ask her.

    Take it from there.

Why did you leave it so late to inform her of your plans? She may not have enough time to be able to decide.

Sounds like someone is not so subtly asking for parenting advice.
"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes that you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid."

Probably because you weren't sure you would ever get the ship up and running. But miraculously you have, because you're just that good at SCIENCE (the scifi kind).

How would Evelyn feel about finding her people rather than visiting Earth first?

She would be bummed about it, but would get over it eventually. It's not like she can really disobey you anyway. She is not human. But unless you have given her guidelines, don't be surprised if she takes out her anger on something or someone else (although nothing or no one you care about, she will make sure of that).

This is the same girl who has shot a lightning bolt at a chicken that ran away, instead of returning it alive. Her reason? "It shouldn't have ran away. I can obey. What's his problem?"

Despite your 8 year old son acting rebellious on occasion, Evelyn has never hurt him, and treats him well. But she enforces parental rules with all the loyalty you would expect out of disability dog. She won't let Brian get away with anything if she knows about it.

If I wanted that, I wouldn't get it from people online. This is a thought experiment for fun, nothing more.

Sorry .That was a bit cheeky.

I think it is a strange concept that a member of a species would have this blind loyalty to whoever they chose as a "master".

I think it is more reasonable that they might have such a tendency up to a point and so long as it coincided with their interests .

So you would have to be prepared for their loyalty to reach a breaking point if it was pushed beyond a certain point.

It might not be a comfortable place to find that out half way across interstellar space.

Not human, so do not think she thinks like a human does. Loyalty has no breaking point. The only goof ups she will make will be things you never gave her any guidelines on. If you give her guiding principles, she won't mess up on the things that apply. It's not like she forgets... anything.

Her own free will is expressed by the things she does that you give no guidelines on, as well as her asking you to do the things you may forbid. That said, if you tell her to never ask you for something again, she won't. But if she really wanted it, she will act unhappy until you allow her to at least ask you.

That is why you have let her ask you at least once a year for some things. She usually gets really cheery around that time of year, and will sulk for a while if her request is rejected, but will get over it and wait till next time.

And she has really no choice who she chooses as her master. It's the first sapient (human level or above) male she see's, and that was you. It's part of her alien instinct, even though she has free will to a limited extent. Mostly expressed by likes/dislikes, and her questions.
