There are so many religions in the world that defy definition. but some actually have very specific tenets that one has to agree to before they will be regarded by that group as ONE OF THEM. Christians insist that you need only to believe in God and the resurrection of Christ to be Christian. All muslims agree that you have to adhere to the 5 pillars of islam in order to be muslim, all else is unofficialy open to interpretation.

But I want to know about the more important things in life.

What is the required attributes that a person must possess in order to be labeled and fully assimilated into the social order of Trekkies?

I think there are many out there that delude themselves. Some who wish they were trekkies but don't live up to the standard and some that do live up to the standard but are in complete denial of it for fear of infinite wedgie threats.

Can we as scientifically minded individuals please clarify what exactly a trekkie is and is not?

In 1967, science fiction editor Arthur W. Saha applied the term "trekkies" when he saw a few fans of the first season of Star Trek: The Original Series wearing pointy ears at the 25th World Science Fiction Convention, on the day series creator Gene Roddenberry showed a print of "Amok Time" to the convention. Saha used the term in an interview with Pete Hamill that Hamill was conducting for TV Guide concerning the phenomenon of science fiction.

You may be a Trekkie if:

    1. You can name any episide from the first 10 sec of the teaser.
    2. You know what class ship the Enterprise(orig.series) is.
    3. You can name all the other ships of the same class.
    4. You know what IDIC stands for.
    5. You had your name put on the waiting list for the original Enterprise Hallmark ornament.
    6. You knew that there was a waiting list for the original Enterprise Hallmark ornament.
    7. You ever went out in public dressed in a Starfleet uniform( other than on Halloween)
    8. You ever owned a StarFleet uniform.
    9. You watched the Animated Star Trek series.
    10. You have actually taken part in a debate over who is the better captain, Kirk or Picard.

Yes, but it's understandable in your case even if you're not a Trekkie, because of your ears. It's one day of the year you can put them to work.

I'm wondering which series she is trying to emulate with her costume?

In my experience, having associated all my life with numerous of geeks/ nerds/ anoraks and Trek/ general SF/ SciFI/ Skiffy fans, no one likes to be called a Trekkie.
    The preferred term is "Trekker".

The difference may be subtle but can be illustrated as follows:
A Trekker wonders what sex in zero g is like.
A Trekkie wonders what sex is like.

There is only one criteria that can establish whether you are a trekkie or not.

Which do you prefer? Star Trek or Star Wars?

Add the words together and you will still favor Star Wars.

So what is a person who knows damn near everything about star trek including behind the scenes antics for many episodes from most of the series that claims to like star wars better but knows little about the specifics of its creation?

    Conformation Bias. Simple as that.
This hypothetical person prefers Star Wars and is therefor, entertained by it enough to not feel the urge to nitpick the details. Star Trek series, however, with its major plotholes and lack of consistency, is wide open for attack.

I haven gotten the hair cut and wore the ears and it never interfered with me getting sex. Well except that I wasn't horny. Lack of emotion or logical reasons for exposing myself to unknown territories of a strangers body can do that. but I had plenty of offers for copulation.

Perhaps more-so with the ears than without.

Ahh, so we are going for a "1 true trekkie" concept. How about having the seasons on DVD, the majority of the action figures, and the majority of the micro machines, along with the Decipher CCG and the DSP Halloween Mask

Stark Trek? Is that some kind of Star Trek/Ironman crossover?
