This is one of my favorite sci fi shows on television right now, but I'm afraid its mostly imagination.

The writers *do* try to stick to real science where they're able, however. The episode that involved a black hole was surprisingly accurate (afaik) with regard to the properties science has predicted about black holes.

When it comes to archaeology and human antiquity, the show takes a lot of liberties and their writing seems to come directly from the pages of Hancock and Von Daniken, but at least they *say* Stargate is fiction. These two authors claim to be nonfiction. Indeed, it seems like there are more and more wacky claims popping up on the Internet that could have been lifted from the storylines of Stargate.

Still, I'm an avid Stargate fan. I'm happy to suspend disbelief for an hour or so a week and enjoy the show.

i love that serie, it went down with orio dudes, but its still good enough to watch. As we know now we cant say that it is possible, just calculate it. yet our calculations have shown the possibility, then if those are right remains to be seen. If it is possible, stars here we come

problem being you need to place the gate at the other end, that must have taken the ancients ages.

See, I watched the scifi show "the science of stargate". Everyone is right, *theroetically* it's possible. I also find SG-1 and atlantis highly entertaining whenever I find the time to watch it.

A wormhole through space is "theoretically possible", but having the ability to travel through those wormholes and have it have absolutely no effect on a normal timeline or time sense, isn't.

I myself could not see how an Einstein-Rosen Bridge could possibly work "there and back", since every jump through the wormhole involves an equivalent jump back in time. So to travel 50 light years, you would arrive in 1956 (visible from Earth right now), but travelling back through the worm hole would deposit you on Earth just in time to see the San Fancisco Earthquake. From this I deduced that Einstein-Rosen Bridges only work in one direction, and the direction of the wormhole is always towards the Universal origin, in other words the Big Bang. It is therefore impossible to return to the same place (Earth) at an earlier time.

However, every space opera, from Star Trek, to Stargate, to Eve Online (my current obsession) absolutely and completely ignores all time consequences of ftl travel.

they work under the assumption that you can connect two points in space at the same time, practically making it the same or very close points in space. which doesn't make it an Einstein-Rosen Bridge does it :?

funny they have it as being a wormhole when the effects are the same as joining two points of spacetime. there universe is sooo cool.

I like stargate alot and its cool how they spun SGA and how they events in the stargate world are the same in each series and theres a ton of sharing of story lines and characters. Im just nervous about what MGM is going to do if Sci-Fi drops them.

As for the science in the show, they do have use real scientists as consultants to stay as true as a sci-fi show can be. Also they come up with alot of neat technologies, that seam futuristic but not too futuristic.

They are coming out with a new Stargate show called Stargate: Universe. In the show humans find an ancient warship that was suppose to seed stargates throughout the their known universe. However, when found, it is completely desolate so they take control of it. As we know seven chevrons on a stargate address send travellers to another place located in the same galaxy while eight chevrons send the traveller to another galaxy all together. The ninth chevron, which will be put to use in Stargate: Universe, is so travel to a moving location which is the stargate that is aboard this new ship.
