I was just wondering if anyone knows of some good short science fiction stories?
I've just finished reading [/i]Litmus, which is a short story collection. I really liked the fact that the writers of each of the stories were paired up with real scientists. It's really inspired me to read more of this type of fiction, there's something quite nice about stories that only last a few pages yet still manage to pack a punch.

    Thanks

EDIT: Sorry. Didn't realize you said "short stories." [/EDIT]

Pretty much anything by Isaac Asimov or Arthur C Clarke is fantastic. I also loved Contact by Carl Sagan.

My dad is always going on about Isaac Asimov so I might have to give that a try! Are there any in particular that you think are worth reading?

You might start with Nightfall, which is actually a short story: http://www.reconciliation.com/!%20MS%20-%20Nightfall%20-%20Asimov.pdf

Most new science fiction is terrible, more fantasy than science, but the stephen baxter collaborations with Arthur C. Clarke are all good
also, there is this guy named Ben Jeapes who wrote a couple of good novels (The Ark, The Xenocide Mission), and another book by just stephen baxter- Manifold Space. They're all really pulpy sci-fi but they're good.
