There have been thousands of sightings over the last few hundred years, but no bodies, harpoonings, fossils etc. however the megamouth shark was only discovered in 1975. there have been only 50 or so confirmed sightings of the shark, and only a few carcasses have been found washed ashore. (It is so rare, Wikipedia lists its conservation status as ''data deficient'' ) .

These people describe the same thing.. which is this:

Stegosaurus-like head sticking out the water (ruling out any oarfish) undulating humps (no other reptile undulates vertically) described to be 100+ long. So what are your thoughts on this controversial cryptid? To this day science refuses to recognise it.

So far no actual findings that show an actual body of this thing have been found and until a body is found I don't believe there are such animals.

He claims that 4 of his friends were killed by a sea serpent. He even drew a sketch, ruling out any mis-identification.

What makes the story credible is the fact that one of his friend's bodies washed to shore a few days after.

    Wrong.
Google is your friend. So is Ancestry.com and other websites to confirm persons.

    TrueAuthority.com - Cryptozoology - Death At Sea
    Cryptomundo Death by Sea Serpent?

Let me google that for you

    His Facebook
    https://www.facebook.com/edward.mccleary

He's reluctant to talk about the event though. I wouldn't expect much.

    Yeah right.
    Facebook.
Did you know that Batman and Sheldon Cooper are on Facebook?

Even IF that particular is a real person is it the same one?
Oh wait: Facebook McCleary - Tulsa, Oklahoma.
And Sea Monster McCleary - currently lives in south Florida. (Your own link).

I think given his posting history and previous sock puppets "can you say troll?" is more appropriate.

Pipl says he's 68 now. He was 16 in 1962. So was the sea monster Edward McCleary. The sea monster Edward McCleary also lives in Florida. The name, state and age match, would mean it most likely is him.

    OK. Enough.

Frank can have a couple of weeks off to think about what is and isn't appropriate subject matter for discussion on a SCIENCE forum.
