Is it possible that we've been genetically engineered by Extra-terrestrials?
Or, is it possible that we've been visited in the past by extra-terrestrials?
And, all our scientific advancements were actually a gift by ET?

Like, how exactly did ancient Indians know that there were 9 planets before the invention of telescope?
(They worshipped the 9 planets in temples)

How did the ancient Egyptians construct the Pyramids?

    Okay guys.
    Like, see.
There are billions of planets all over the Universe which are exactly at the right distance from their home star.
How could Earth be the only one to hold intelligent life forms?

Stawman, no one is saying aliens do not or cannot exist (there is no firm evidence either way so anyone who is sure they know the answer is a dolt), but what evidence do you have they are genetic engineers, that they visit other planets, that they are responsible for so-called "advanced knowledge" or have a pyramid fetish? (I'll give you a clue: Sweet FA)

Forget the point of them genetically engineering us.
But, there's a chance of us being visited by them for sure.

How exactly can you say that Humans are the only intelligent species in the entire Universe?

Edit to add, this is a response to post #15, after reading the later posts my last sentence stands.

Have you ever heard of "burden of proof", you are quite good at shifting it, the pyramids are there, they were built, people tend to build structures, pyramids are an obvious shape that gets smaller as you move up proxies of which are seen in nature (they are called "mountains" or "hills") and can be copied and tidied up geometrically. Where is your evidence it was down to aliens? (Clue: you don't have any). Now you are being silly so I'll leave you to it.

Yeah, fine. Forget about us being engineered.
    We couldn't be alone.
So, what is to say that we've not been visited back by them?

There isn't a facepalm big enough for this statement.

Why are people always so willing to believe that "ancient" peoples were so primitive and incapable of doing anything impressive? Just because a TV show tells you, "These people didn't have the ability to carve stones at this level of precision" does not make it true. Firstly, they DID have the technology to do so. Secondly, the carvings are not so perfect as to have only been possible with lasers.

In essence, you're hearing bullspit and taking it as gospel. Use your noggin, man.

MODERATOR ACTION : The topic of "ancient aliens" has no place in the main physics section. Moved to Pseudoscience.

Don't be obtuse. In order to do that you would need advanced mechanical engineering like an inclined plane or perhaps a rudimentary pulley system. Those things weren't invented until the 1940's, I'm pretty sure! That's all forgetting that you would need decades to build it and a friggin' army of people. It's well known that Egypt is a desert and only sparsely populated, not the seat of some ancient powerful civilization.

Mate, nobody says that. There may well be plenty of others. Though the problems of distance in interstellar travel make the likelihood of having been visited somewhat hard to envisage.

But to support the idea of aliens visiting the Earth, you would need convincing evidence, that is, evidence for which a simpler, less exotic explanation would not do. This is called Occam's (or Ockham's) Razor and is very useful in many intellectual disciplines.

If you are prepared to sit through multiple episodes of Ancient Aliens, then perhaps you would be prepared to sit through this 3 hour documentary that debunks everything claimed in Ancient Aliens, point by point...

While I don't have the time to sit through it, I have caught a few minutes of Ancient Aliens on TV and most of the stuff they point out as evidence are actually downright lies.

"They didn't have the tools to do this." In fact, they did.

"They didn't have the understanding of construction to make this." In fact, they did.

"These pieces are made to a level of precision these people could not achieve." In fact, the pieces are not nearly as precise as they claim.

The show likes to offer up only the evidence which supports the ludicrous, but entertaining, claims that aliens have interacted with us.

bro i am also politely replying but now you've crossed your limits. who the fuck are you to say ancient aliens show is shit? and i've got loads of evidence which do exclaim the existence of extra terrestrials and be careful on that thing abt you said that this is a grade bull shit. and what if you don't know anything abt the existence of aliens?
and speaking biologically life was formed first in water. so is it wrong to think that life is also somewhere else in our vast universe other than our own planet earth. for your kind information there are planets out there which do have water and recently a planet has been discovered which continuously evaporates water vapour from it's surface. so don't consider the things which you don't know at all as bull shit if you don't know abt it just leave the post or try ro know abt that particular things.

An interesting fact about aliens,*Even though Aliens are believed to be very powerful and advanced in science (see their spaceships), they are still scared of dogs and elephants.* :3

Is this for real or are you guys just bad trolls? I have a hard time believing that anyone who would seriously write a reply like that could manage to dress themselves in the morning. Is there life, by our definition, elsewhere in the universe? It's possible.Has it visited us? Perhaps as bacteria on an meteorite, but little green men in a saucer... you can't be serious...

Surely, the credit for that fix should go to von Daniken himself as he admits to making it up. Basically, it is fiction.

The sad part - as with all pseudoscience - is not so much the stuff that von Daniken made up, but rather that so many people appear to be gullible enough to believe it in the first place.
Ah well. I suppose it is easier to believe in ancient aliens than it is to make an effort to learn science. Sad, but true.

Aliens may indeed exist. I never said otherwise. Try watching the documentary I linked to - the author believes aliens exist.

It is not wrong at all to think that life is also somewhere else in our vast universe other than our own planet earth.

It IS wrong to believe the evidence presented in Ancient Aliens, however, that life from this vast universe has VISITED EARTH. The conclusions made in Ancient Aliens are shown to be falsehoods, in the documentary I posted. It shows the falsehood behind all the statements in Ancient Aliens, one by one, point by point.

That is the sticking point here. The universe is vast, after all.

You don't even understand what we are saying, do you? YES IT IS LIKELY THAT THERE ARE ALIENS OUT THERE!

But here on Earth, no... we have NO evidence for them visiting Earth at all. Not one bit of evidence. All the evidence they claimed in the Ancient Aliens series has been shown to be not evidence at all.

Now go away and consider your position, and wash your mouth out while you do so.

Ah well. I suppose it is easier to believe in ancient aliens than it is to make an effort to learn science. Sad, but true.
The thing that really gets up my nose about attributing human achievements to aliens is that it's a gross insult to us as a species.

Our ancestors had just as much brain power and capacity to organise things as we do. They just didn't have the backing of our engineering and scientific knowledge.

To me, it has much the same flavour as the unabashed, totally shameless racism of a Victorian era missionary/anthropologist in Africa or outback Australia. The poor dear savage innocents aren't clever enough to work out things for themselves, so we'll have to run their lives for them.

Too many professional anthropologists/paleontologists display these weaknesses in their work, so it's not really much of a surprise when it turns up in the work of uneducated amateurs. We should always check our presumptions when we're dealing with unfamiliar cultures - whether they're separated from us by geography or by time, we should be careful not to insult people who really are/were quite capable and intelligent.

I don't believe I want to be associated with ancient aliens. If I have to be abducted and subjected to unspeakable horrors I want it done by modern, state of the art aliens, not last millenium's model!

No, I didn't bother with it. I posted it as a gag. I was familiar with "follow up debunk" prior to this thread which is why I knew it existed. I just thought you all could have some fun with it. To which I'm still laughing over Dywyddr's first response.

I think that guy posted the debunk response on Twitter first. either way I posted it for yuks.

I wonder... did aliens build the Eiffel tower and L'Arc de Triomphe?
Actually, a deity made the Eiffel Tower. As it was strolling along the Earth, completely invisible to humans (because all deities are insecure about their looks), it fell. As it fell, in the moment of distress, it flung out its hand. Now, to those of you not familiar with deities, hand waving is kinda their thing. Why, the simple action of waving their hand causes things to pop into existence. In this case, the hand waving caused the Eiffel Tower to pop into reality, and since we humans are greedy little buggers, and since nobody had to pay taxes for the new building, we just kinda embraced it without question. Note the name itself, Eiffel Tower (I fell Tower). I hope this explains things for you.

Crystal skulls? Easy: 1) Obtain "crystal"; then 2) Using tools, fashion skull. See Crystal skull - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As for "elongated skulls," which ones are you thinking of? There are birth defects that can produce elongation, for example.

    No aliens required.

Remember - Pseudoscience - Aliens; ~ For a few months of my early years when I lived in China and was just a nine year old. I considered that humanity might well be descended from aliens that in order to survive began controlled breeding programs.. or just for fun was having wild sex orgies with the Earths inhabitant's.. and then I learned that there is NOT a single case of a alien? Not one. No artifact, machine, or even a fossil record. Those that hang on to these childlike images of fiction are in a sad place. They hold on to a idea that has no proof of fact to support it. Holding onto a belief in spite of scientific inquire is likened to a religious bent.. and that I find. Saddens me. I am not the slightest bit sorry for dismissing this whole subject as utter nonsense. , and I repeat the question to those whom support such.. Show me some proof of aliens having set foot on Earth. ANY.. ?

A form of child abuse if you ask me.

Many cultures manipulate or mutilate body parts. Look up neck rings from Africa Neck ring - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia or foot binding from China Foot binding - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Nothing to do with aliens.

I'm just going to weigh in a little here if nobody minds because Ancient Aliens the show is kind of brilliant in a way for just how absolutely mindbogglingly crazy and contradictory it is. There's at least one brilliant part with the Great Pyramid where one of the loons - Childress I think - is going on about how the blocks were cut to precisely flat surfaces and precisely cut angles and he's standing there with a right angle tool and trying to show this and he kind of wiggles it a bit because the surface isn't perfectly flat and in the end there's this half centimetre gap between the middle of the tool and the block, showing just how perfectly flat it isn't.

The show is basically shock full of things like that - there's an amazing clip where they have a CG of the moon going through space and, well... you kind of have to see it to believe it, really:

It gets even better because while many of their core ideas are based on Erich von Däniken's work (comical enough, considering the number of times he's been caught out doing lies and misinformation, and that he wrote his second book while in jail for fraud), their deeper source is Zecharia Sitchin - infamous for his, uh... creative... interpretations of ancient Summerian texts that pretty much disagree any other serious attempts at interpreting these texts. Not only that, but a cornerstone in Sitchin's ideas was the existence of Niburu, the "twelfth planet" that's supposed to have this really weird orbit and be responsible for various biblical events in ways that don't agree with actual physics and doesn't in any way fit into astronomical observations. It's actually hilarious how much the Ancient Aliens show skirts around the topic of Niburu, sort of mentioning it but never really delving too deeply in it; it's like they know crossing that line would expose their game, hah!

Sadly, I have misplaced the list I was putting together of all the contrary or flat out incorrect claims that I could spot watching it, but the basic theme is that none of the people on that show seemed to have a very good grasp of things like Geology, Astronomy, Evolution, DNA, Quantum Physics, Newtonian Physics or... well... anything but crank conspiracy, really.

I mean seriously, this is a show where one of the presenters rambled on how the Moon (yes, our Moon) have visibly bottomless craters and that NASA has come out and said that very same moon is hollow.
