Is it possible that the properties of Iron 59 mean it could actually be re-used in 'nuclear explosion propulsion drive' for space craft?

Well, it won't explode, for starters!

Which properties did you think were relevant?

Could I have made such an elementry mistake , no but seriously I wasn't suggesting replacing uranium with iron. No what I was suggesting was using it for radiation containment sheilding to stop the spacecraft be flooded with radiation from a nuclear pulse drive.

I was thinking of it as opposed to hundreds of tons of lead, for engine containment.

It has a half life of 44 days, so better make it a quick flight.

Yes, and a useable time frame of about 300 hours tops, but the idea would be to inject it into the inside of the pulse drive casing before firing each pulse detonation, it would have to be used sparingly but could do the job then be ejected as extra reaction mass to improve propulsion even further.

Perhaps, I should have specified that the iron 59 would have been made on boad the space craft from the nuclear reactor that powers it, that was the idea of re-using the reactor waste product as engine radiation sheilding.
