Chi, also known as the life force, is a very very common belief amongst Asian cultures and martial arts. Does chi exist?
    For example, things like

This just looks like the kind of shock anyone can get from overtly threatened violence. Combined with the kind of susceptibility that a fair proportion of us have to react extremely when startled in any way.

Why do you think that advanced legal systems count threatening events where noone touches anyone as "assault"? Because we all get a bit of a shock even if we don't fall down or pass out when facing this kind of a threat.

Problem number 1 is that science already has a very specific use of the word force. You can't call chi a force in a scientific sense because that word is already predefined. Unless you are going to try to argue that chi takes units of kg*m/s^2 and can produce an acceleration. Problem number 2 is that no, chi does not exist. There is nothing magical about pushing nervous system buttons and that guy does not have a magical chi energy punch.

Despite the fact that it may not be a force, nor really exist, what that man does could be explained in many ways.
My theory is that he is using intimidation, what other martial artists call "killing intent" which is supposed to disorient and discombobulate the weak minded or already scared. I doubt that this move works from behind, without clear eye contact or from very far. The human body and particularly the brain is very susceptible to fear/threats, and would probably have some of the really weak-sounding symptoms described in that video.

I agree with saying that intimidation could've caused the results seen in the video, as the students of this guy are probably conditioned to believe he is either extremely powerful or actually possess chi..

Do not turn to charlatans like the martial arts guy for answers of what chi is about. Real or not, chi is a useful tool (be it simply a tool of method and nothing more) in traditional Chinese Medicine. Look at how it is used there instead of turning to fat white men who think they have superhero powers.
It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.

Good point, Pyoko, pressure points, and "chi centers" have been very benificial to the study and relief of certain pains.

Chi, if you will, is about allowing someone to use more of their bodies actual potential. Imagine an engine management system in a car, you can have it 'chipped' or remapped to produce more power under given conditions. Chi is essentially the same thing, it is consciously using an imagined force to tell the subconscious you require more of the bodies maxium potential. If the body was permanently tuned to it's maxium potential it would ware out very quickly and would most likely be always in danger of imminent failure.

This is why certain states of mind, martial arts and medicines can take advantage of uterlising the bodies full potential from breaking a concrete slab to healing a wound, because they are only using it in short bursts for a limited time.

A very good description, but I feel that it's still a fiction. Also, you wrote "uterlising" so I can't take you seriously.

If it were actually a real force it would be quantifiable, and as far I'm aware no one has managed that yet.
