Photo taken by Hippolyte Baraduc of his wife 20 minutes after her death. He believed the misty form was her soul, he took another photograph 15 minutes later and the misty form united together in a luminous ball, an hour later it disappeared.

Black and white photo and of poor quality. It means nothing. Interesting effects and imagination on what it could be.
But you have to ask, why would you be photographing you wife minutes after she died. I would be crying my eyes out
and and delirious with grief. But you know....

Good points, but regarding this photo it is the only one that actually exists which claims to show the soul departing the body at death. For some reason little researchers have attempted to do this since, most people would rather look for ghost pictures etc. Photo was taken in 1907.

Why would he be photographing his wife just after his death? This has been brought up by others, but you see he was obviously very eager to try and prove the existence of the soul, he wanted to know if his wife could survive death or not. Interestingly a couple of days after he took these photographs he claimed the luminous ball was following him around the house and he had communicated with it and it was indeed his wife, yet that can not ever be proven!

So what. I have seen better pictures of unicorns and Father Christmas. It is a blurry picture that shows nothing at all. It is probably a result of bad photography or dodgy film and/or processing.

What about the squiggly white lines: that is obviously hyperdimensional mice trying to tell us the secret of life, the universe and everything.

The white lines are streaks of light, they are related to the formation of the soul body or form apparently, Baraduc had some interesting ideas to explain that.

No they are not. They are obviously hyperdimensional mice trying to tell us the secret of life, the universe and everything. Prove me wrong.

This picture might be true, but why doesn't somebody try to do the same thing now days with these fancy cameras to see if they could get the similar result.

Maybe they have and, not surprisingly, there is nothing to see. There is film/video footage of people dying and, guess what, no "souls" to be seen.

If he can photograph it then it must've been bright (bright enough) to expose the film, but did he see it? Other explaination might be because he need to develop the photos and this photos got exposed in the dark room. Developing photos involves many step of using chemical and those step are gritty and not 'clean' like in digital camera (stuff could happen that produce such smudge).

There must be a lot of people around today who have never even seen film, never mind the experience of developing their own.

I might try and test it out one day.

All of it pure speculation. No science to be found here.

Why is "hyperdimensional mice trying to tell us the secret of life, the universe and everything" a preposterous idea? And a 105yr old photo of someones soul leaving their dead body not? I fail to see why you didn't like his idea. It seemed to be the sort of idea that you would like.

Actually, I was just kidding but I have just realised I am right. Rotate the image counter clockwise by 90degrees. Those squiggles now look like $2. On my keyboard, $ is Shift-4. So they were trying to write 42 (the answer to life, the universe and everything) but had the shift key down.

And we have missed it for all these years.

A blanket is no good. What is required is a towel. John seems like the kind of guy who always knows where his towel is.

If you tilt your head left, you can see what either is the face of a confused cat that is being used as a pillow, or a pillow with a smug looking face (probably because an ass-shaped mist is crushing the life of its captor).
