We're used to some quantities being only positive. I'm wondering what some physical phenomena might be like if they had negative counterparts.

Negative Mass—Since mass is a measure of inertia, negative mass would reverse the effects of inertia. That is, negative mass would be a measure of the tendency of an object at rest to start moving and an object in motion to come to rest. These two tendencies would work against each other resulting in an equilibrium in which objects having negative mass would stay at rest until acted upon. Once set in motion, however, they would come to rest unless some force would keep them moving. If the universe was made up of matter with negative mass, it would be very static. Any motion caused by energy of some sort would be of short duration. Planets would not orbit stars for long periods of time and would soon fall into them.

Negative Light—Since light illuminates and heats objects, negative light would darken and cool them. Life as we know it would be impossible.

Negative Time—Since time moves from cause to effect, negative time would proceed from effect to cause. Birth would result in conception, for instance, and conception would lead to coitus.

Negative Gravity—Unlike gravity, negative gravity would cause matter to repel matter rather than act as a force of attraction. Stars would never have formed, and the universe would be made up entirely of hydrogen.

Can you think of any others?

I think this can be related to stars and black holes, once the star reaches infinite point like after a super nova it turns negative and grows opposite and has opposite traits! A Black hole!

it made me think of a compute program, when you shrink a 3d object from the x and y axis, as you shrink it it will reach its point and turn negative and on y and x axis the color would change from white to black...

That's an interesting example of a physical inversion. A black hole is something like a negative star? Simplistically, stars emit light while black holes suck light in. However, Steven Hawking has concluded that some radiation might be emitted from black holes. In addition, both black holes and stars have mass and gravity, though, so they're not completely opposite to each other.

Why not run the three dimensions in negative directions along all three axes and create negative volume?

In any event, I believe this kind of thinking helps us to see reality in new ways and maybe lead to new discoveries.

    Hello,
I have marked, sink or rise in their consciousness according to another kind of "specific gravity". Some natures are naturally heavy, others, naturally light. People with a naturally positive outlook may rise above even extraordinary setbacks-tests under which people more pessimistically inclined, might sink.

    Thanks

The rich will be those who are destitute.

There will be no credit for overpayment, just another bill asking for it.

Japith, it is considered very bad etiquette to purposely bump a thread just so it is at the top again. It creates the false impression that there is interest in to topic by others other then the bumper.

i'll play you're bump worthy opponent!

Negative Mass - This is generally called anti-matter. I would blow your mind if i went further on the topic of it so I'll spare you.
Negative Light - The opposite of light is darkness... not much more to say on that topic eh?
Negative Time - Space and Time are relative so one would assume without space time would cease also, this would be negative time.
Negative Gravity - Gravity is the fabric of space being bent so if you go to an area of space where there is no matter to obstruct it you have an area without gravity. ( That dark area you see when it's night time and you look in the sky )
