Hi, this is my first post.

I've been thinking about conciousness and what might have sparked it off in humanity. I had the idea that maybe an incredibly powerful gravity wave could have passed the earth some time ago in the past and had lifted a large number of people in close proximity off the ground, sparking consciousness.

Is this a possibility in physics?

I think that this would not leave a trace or tell-tale clue as gravity waves are very hard to detect even today with all of today's modern instruments.

I'd be happy for your thoughts.

    All the best,

    Ste.

    No.

    There's
    1) no reason to believe that happened
    2) no reason to believe that if it had happened, it would have had the effect you say.

Why the heck would lifting random people off the ground give them "consciousness"?

How would this cause consciousness and why would it only do it to humans? What about the other hundreds of thousands of species Earth?

Consciousness is a question yet to be answered. No reason to believe that the primordal soup could produce self-awareness as in consciousness. Only theory that life was produced. Beginnings are hard to explain, and the explainations only theory. No good definition of consciousness.

And one on which there are many naturalistic leads. There's no particular need for us to propose outlandish hypotheses unless the more likely explanations don't pan out.

Nobody ever suggested that abiogenesis gave rise to consciousness. The hypothesis is that evolution did it.

The unknown is not a gap to be filled by whatever you happen to like the idea of most.

If there was ever a mathematical equation that described the universe and all of its wonders, is there any sense to say that it would be in the form of either

    Universe > 0

    Universe = 0

    Universe < 0

It would seem more likely that consciousness came from consciousness to me. It is the normal order of nature.

Not sure we can describe the universe and all of its wonders in any language, math included.
