Question: Is it possible that some time in the future humans might be able to levitate?

    Q & Pavlos

I appreciate your concern for my madness insanity wacky delusion etc etc

But I know flying's a reality. I flew last night.

And if you've never experienced flying

    Then you are missing out!

Take a perusal of these articles (if you have time between digging your back hoofs and snorting the existence of God and reality of levitation)

Look at some of the evidence before you turn away........

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/1559...evitation.html
    (5th paragraph down)

    http://www.hfml.ru.nl/levitate.html
    (middle box - Diamagnetic levitation)

Now this is an interesting one because now we not only have one possibility - using the magnetic field, but also now two using sounds waves-
    http://www.livescience.com/technolog...evitation.html

Here's a site with some experiments you can do of your own to prove that physical objects can be made to levitate -

    http://www.dmoz.org/Science/Physics/...ic_Levitation/

There's plenty more evidence of successful and interesting experiments

You guys should really try stretching the boundaries of your minds more, after all doesn't the macrocosm reflect the microcosm. The Universe is expanding and that's what we're meant to be doing too. Yeah, of course you have to be wary and skeptical, but save that mostly for people, they are the ones that are more likely to lie to you. Nature doesn't, you just have to learn to keep your eyes open and your brain intact! And that means keeping it flexible not rigid.

No hard feelings BTW, but your just too stubborn for your own good!

(Pong - I am looking into the possibility of sparks shooting out of fingers, should I find anything which might help you zap Q i will let you know, but I will have to let Q know too, because it's only fair)

If by "levitation" you mean something on the order of magnetic levitation of metallic objects, then levitation is proven technology.

If by "levitation" you mean some sort of effect whereby man flies unaided or with his mind causes objects to rise in a gravitational field, then you are way off base.

I think this post belongs in "Pseudoscience" or the trash can.

So you don't think it's possible for a person to consciously manipulate their magnetic field?

Mmmm....I thought our magnetic fields fluctuated due to many internal factors?

I shall have happy landings as i am well practiced in flying, but it seems likely that you will land with a bump.

Why have people through the ages imagined levitation? Why is it often associated with feelings of inner peace and bliss?

I've never had full-tilt flying dreams. Not like Superman flying. But I've had many dreams of defying gravity, as far back as I remember though less as I'm older. In these dreams I begin seated, perhaps perched atop some structure. Then some unseen force causes me to rise up and lurch forward in slow motion as though I'm being carried inevitably toward a destination, usually another large structure, almost like an enormous high chair or changing table.

Mmm...not sure you can just make a sweeping statement and say everything is possible.

Perhaps everything has potential, but currently, some things seem to have more potential than others.

Who's saying it has anything to do with inner peace and bliss Pong???

I was talking about the magnetic field around our bodies fluctuating. This could occur from anger as well. And even the food we've eaten, or didn't eat, or lots of possible factors other than transcendental meditation.

Sounds like you still need the changing table Peter Pong

I must agree with DrRocket; diamagnetism can be used to achieve levitation of human beings. However, flying unaided is akin to trying to grow chickens with teeth.

So you don't think it's possible for a person to consciously manipulate their magnetic field?

Mmmm....I thought our magnetic fields fluctuated due to many internal factors?
Wouldn't make any difference; magnetism can't counteract the effect of gravity. To really levitate, you'd need a strong magnet with a pole opposite to the one you have, in which case levitating unaided is obviously out of the question.

    For the time being Q

I can admit defeat gracefully, but I shall not be taking it out of my 'MMmm...??' folder quite just yet, and i fully intend to be back armed with more evidence and fully appreciate the counter-arguments and knowledgeable response.

I emphasize knowledgeable which i respect, but rude or obnoxious replies however knowledgeable will be a waste of your time because they will just get spat back at

Failing that i shall put a demonstration on Youtube and you can see for yourself.

Probably any number of psychic phenomena are possible, but it's unlikely any scientific approach could ever be made to understanding them. (So, why bother trying to discuss it as science?)

I will point out you are in no shape to comment with the little snide changes and comments such as "Dr. Sprocket" and "Peter Pong" etc. This is the type of behavior that one expects from a jr high student trying to get attention.

Try being polite and you will be surprised how far you get.

As Paleo says, trying to insult anybody who contradicts you is not something any reasonable human being should be engaged in. I would advise you to be a little more polite than you seem to be at the moment.

I had to pay Skinwalker a lot of money

And I have to make sure I'm wearing my Invisibility cloak when he's around (or levitating is another option)

No I don't like being rude. But I do like being rude back to other people who like being rude.

And If there's anything I'm good at (apart from physics), it's being rude!

What I am interested in is WHY. Why do you feel that it is acceptable to act in a manner that would probably have you getting the S**** beat out of you if you acted this way in person with people? What make you thing it is ok to be so rude in the forum?

A simple clash of personalities, is all. Absum (a female by the way) is a fun loving, caring, creative, open-minded and thoughtful person in real life. Would you have guessed it?

Thank you Kalster that is really lovely of you to say that!

I think you're tops too, shame you live so far away, we could have gone out and partied. (I would get you very stoned and make you giggle til your belly ached

    Anyway Paleoichneum

Is that a promise? How would you like me for the beating? Across your lap?

You're just annoyed because i called you Paleitchybum.

For GODS sake lighten up the bladdy lot of you, you take yourselves far toooo seriously.
Some of you do the pompous pedantic seriously sterile cold as an iceberg and sterilized of any humour or humanness striving hard to be intellectual and smart 'my brains so big it's popping out of my head' charicature very well.

And I just get an irresistible urge to pop it.

The bigger the ego, the bigger the pop

And some of you are bloody rude too. So when I am rude back how come you run off sniveling?

Insults and rudeness only vex you because you take yourselves and your intelligence so serious.

And that's because most of you are young and you are making more effort than is needed to prove your intelligence and strengthen your identities.
One day, you will become a little wiser & discover the art of discrimination and the necessity for humour and a bit of fun sprinkled between serious, and hopefully you will learn to just shrug your shoulders and walk away.

So the less it bothers you, the more you know you are on the right track to becoming a well rounded person and not a prickly pear.

You should thank me for giving you the chance to practice rising above it and ignoring it, or better still partake and give me a poke back!

BTW - More people have voted that they believe Levitation possible, than not, and less people voted for me to leave the forum.

    So up your bums!

Or, maybe take up flying and transport ourselves instantaneously to any point in the universe.

It was actually you who said you'd leave the forums if this thread wound up in Pseudosience.

You voted yourself off the island. The tribe never said a word.

I can understand if 'levitation' is possible using magnetic fields, but if you are talking about human levitation- that is more difficult!
Absum!: Could you try to be a bit nicer! This conversation can be really fun without constant insults. But, then again it would not be as entertaining to read. :-D

But, I agree with BumFluff- How would you explain your "flight"? Did it have anything to do with piloting a large aircraft in the air?

Did you really just bump this thread after a month so you could mouth off at someone? Actually I don't even care.
