Hi Guys, so does the issue of time travel belong to any particular science ? physics, cosmology . . . ? Or is this post in the right place ?

Question - if we could indeed travel forwards in time, what do you think would happen if we travelled forwards and we were dead !? Okay, it might not be possible, BUT, has anyone any ideas ?

Hi thanks for the link, interesting discussion.

It's a wonderful notion, 'time travel', books, films, theories, discussions, this idea has been around for a very long time I suspect. My first thoughts about time travel happened many years ago but inspired by a totally different field of study, religion ! In particular Christianity. As someone searching for answers through religion I questioned everything I came across, in particular the stories surrounding the life of Jesus. When I questioned the second coming of Jesus someone told me that it was physically possible for a human to be taken out into space and return later when the earth had continued to age a couple of thousand years BUT Jesus had only aged a year or two ! I can't remember the theory so maybe someone out there can ? Doesn't time slow down when travelling at a certain speed ? something along those lines ?

Depending on what this theory is above, could this then be a way of physically travelling forwards in time ?

'So aside from a debate about how timetravel might work'
How time travel might work is just the question I am asking that's why I didn't post my last post in your thread after reading the above line !

Einstein's theory of special relativity dealt with time dilation, the apparent slowing of the passage of time as one gets nearer and nearer to the velocity of light.
If Jesus, or anyone, could leave the Earth, accelerate to near light speed, then return at a later time, much more time would have passed for those of us still on the Earth.

This method would work, but it is not generally thought of as being 'true' time travel.
I'm not sure what the relevance of the person being dead is. Would you amplify on that?

Hi John, thanks for the reply.

The 'dead' reference ? I was driving along with my wife in the car when the conversation turned to time travel ! why ? I can't remember. I talked about travelling forwards in time when my wife said, 'what if you travelled forwards in time but you were dead ?' By that she meant, how can you travel forwards in time past the time you died ? you couldn't do it could you, because you couldn't exist past the time you died !

Blimey, hope that makes sense ?

Just thought of something else ! How could you travel back in time before the time you were even born ?
