NASA finally gets it right!
Everyone on this Round Earth knows the planet is four times bigger then the Moon.

Q: So why does the Earth seem the same size we see the Moon from Earth in this shot? The Earth should be four times larger because their distance apart remains the same.

NASA finally got it right in this animation.Thank GOD!!! I wouldn't want to be walking around thinking the men & women of NASA are just good for fiction without any logic associated to their propaganda, "phew!"

I know that it is a waste of time as far as Newcastle is concerned, But is is impossible to judge the actual angular width of the Earth in the photo shown. You have to know the field of view of the camera and whether or not the photo was cropped.

Comparing the relative size of the Earth to other objects in the photo tells you nothing either unless you know how far the camera was from those objects when the picture was taken.

IOW, you have no idea how large the Moon would have looked in place of the Earth in that photo and therefore can't say that the Eafth looks the same size as the moon does.

Yes, angular width, or apparent diameter. This is how much of a angle the image of the object would take up in your field of view. The Moon as seen from the Earth has an angular width of 30 min, or 1/2 of a degree. Earth as seen from the Moon would have an angular width of 1 3/4 degrees.

Your image demonstrates nothing, as again, we nave no information as to the camera lens or the distance from the building the photo was taken.

Two images taken with different cameras, in one the moon looks small, in the other it looks huge.

It all depends on the lens you use and how you take the picture. You will tend to see pictures in which the Moon looks large just because these types of pictures are more pleasing, and thus photographers tend to take these types of pictures.

BTW, your attempt to laugh off my earlier response just made you look foolish.

I'd strongly advise you to go and hide in your fantasy world. You'll increasingly find that reality does not match up with it and I imagine that will cause you a lot of distress. Take your mental comfort blanket and do yourself the favour of not debating with people who actually know what they're talking about.

Besides, the moon isn't the same size every night. The acknowledged distance between the Earth and the Moon is only the average distance. The Moon's orbit is actually eliptical rather than perfectly circular.

Here're the numbers taken from Wiki:

In addition, different locations on Earth will be closer or further away depending on where the Moon is at a given moment. But.... even all that aside, Janus is right.

The distance between the camera and the object you're using as a reference determines the apparent size of the Moon relative to that object. That is a simple fact of geometry. You can test it using a camera and any pair of objects. Put one object far away, and the other one fairly near, and you'll note that by adjusting the near object you can make the other object appear to be any size you want.

People in Hollywood take advantage of this fact in order to make actors like Sylvester Stallone appear taller than they are. (He's actually a really short guy).

Anyway, it's good that you raised this question, because camera geometry makes for an interesting conversation.
