    Question.

    Am I naïve?

Why would someone come into a forum and create a thread and continually request it to be deleted and never discuss the thread?

    That is inane.

You are not naive. You have just read a thread where a troll begins to comprehend it is a troll.

I am a theatre whore, not a scientist, but, sorry. I find that ridiculous. I LEARN from the people in here about things I don't know and find interesting. Do I get them 100%....probably not even 75% but it does expand that area of knowledge that I don't have!

I do not get trolling in any forum.

But thanks Mr. Mojo!! SO much in here with that lately, I have not been visiting much!

I am having Thai flavoured duck (roadkill) for dinner tonight. Very tender after being well marinated.

On windy days the ducks fly into power lines. There is nothing wrong with the meat.

I have a friend who gets a call from the cops any time they're asked to clean up a deer that got hit by a car. He has a big deep freezer full of meat. Better than letting it do to the flies.

Not many deer on the roads around here. I'd do the same if that was the case.

It is a cess-pool of ignorance, hate and trolling. I'm sure the troll will read this and swing back with a vengeance if history is any indication.

You've been nothing but a belligerent since you joined. I don't know why you're here, but if it is simply to rile people up for your own amusement, you should be perma-banned for trolling. I suggest you attempt to make a reasonable contribution to a thread or you will find yourself quickly expelled.

Why is it so out of the question that the earth is just going through a natural cycle?

It is a perfectly reasonable question.
It is a very obvious question.
It was a frequently asked question.
However, since the evidence clearly indicates that what we are seeing is not a natural cycle, it is a question that has been answered - in the negative.

JG pretty much said it. This question has not been dodged. It has been scrutinized heavily (as has the Earth's natural wobble, solar cycles, etc) and the evidence simply does not suggest that a normal cycle is the cause of what we're experiencing.

I would ask why it is so hard to people to trust environmental scientists and accept that our behavior has had severe effects on the global climate. Whether or not an individual CARES if they are contributing to climate change is completely up to them, but to refuse to accept what is pretty clear evidence is hard to fathom.

hey Jphn Galt, get a grip, get a life and smell the extreme liberal bias in mass media. Still waiting for your response to Emma's poignant comment about your prejudices...what's the matter? cat got your tongue, or are you just a typical liberal with zero debate?

Hey Flick Montana. Let me introduce you to my friend 甘肃人. I was smart enough to bring back up in the event you decided to call in your attack dogs.So now why don't you respond to what he had to say instead of dodging the argument? Like 甘肃人 implied, as long as Pell Grants and other government programs exist, there is no reason for scientists to get a real job when they can just shill for the government and falsify results that serve Obama's green agenda. Right after the year 2000, NASA and NOAA dramatically altered US climate history, making the past much colder and the present much warmer. The ones who have the most to lose are the overzealous global warming enthusiasts. Government only funds people to find proof of what they want proven. Scientists want the money? Prove that the government is right.

I do not know if you have, or have not been permanently banned. However good manners dictate I should respond. (You can google "good manners" to find out what I mean by the phrase.)

Get a grip? Do you mean one like this?

I rarely get my opinions from the mass media and I certainly don't go there for my facts. So, well intentioned as your advice doubtless is, it is of no practical value to me. To put it another way, the evidence for anthropogenic global warming is wholly independent of any bias possessed by any wing of the media, mass, or specialist. You could demonstrate with 100% certitude to me and to everyone on the planet that such a bias existed and it would be wholly irrelevant to the mass of scientific evidence supporting anthropogenic global warming.

If you wish to attack the conclusions of practically every climate scientist on the planet, then you need to attack the data and the data analysis, not whatever reporting is carried out. The difficulty for your position then emerges: the case for anthropocentric global warming is too well made to be able to attack with any chance of success. You are therefore forced to resort to an attempt at a "smoke and mirrors" trick. If you can demonstrate that the "liberal media" are biased towards AGW then you will have made the case with the majority of right-wing thinkers. This may fool some of the people some of the time (and fools all the time), but it doesn't work if one is interested in the facts, rather than the way they are reported.

I didn't feel obliged to respond to Emma's remarks, since she singularly failed to respond to mine, but instead launched into an emotional, childish, fact-free tirade. I am ready to respond to that silly outburst now, but look! Emma has systematically deleted all of her posts. I don't recall what she said about my prejudices. (I don't recall the character of my last bowel movement either.) However, I shall say this about my prejudices:

    I have them.
I am convinced that science provides an effective methodology for understanding the world.
I believe that the complex inter-relationship of life on this planet is being undermined by certain aspects of human activity.
I choose to act on the basis that I and my family and my nation are not inherently better than any other person, or family, or nation.
I think that long term is not ten or twenty years, but at least ten or twenty centuries. I have an obligation to the generations that will come after.
I recognise that my desire to beat to a bloody pulp those ignorant bastards who place the entire biosphere at risk through their selfish, egocentric delusions, is just the reptilian part of my brain having its say and so I elect to suppress that.
These are my prejudices and, apart from the last one, I'm quite content with them.

I know this moron is gone for good, but I did like that he/she/it went so far as to attack scientists who work on government grants. I get this a lot from the lame-brain deniers who can't fathom that taxpayer money is SUPPOSED to go toward the protection and health of the nation. Funding scientists who work on environmental health concerns is exactly the point of the government, not a downside. As someone who is working with an NSF grant (a government agency), I can tell you two things about my research. 1) It is most definitely a REAL job that a simpleton like Emma-clone12 would be incapable of performing and 2) It does not make me independently wealthy so I can sit on my taxpayer-built throne and laugh at the plebs I command.

Some people need to shadow a scientist for a week a see exactly what it is we do if their understanding is THAT thin.

Really, I thought "mole" in this context was just a corruption of "moulie", so ideal for gripping somebody by the moulies. But the same idea, I suspect.

Just looked up the character and found that he was created by the actor, Jonathan Harris, who rewrote the scripts and more or less invented the persona of Zachary Smithin the series. Harris was the son of an immigrant New York family of Russian Jews (family name Charasuchin) and, being interested in theatre, cultivated an English accent to overlay his Bronx one.

He was thus perfectly set up to play villains in American TV and film, as it is a cliché of American cinema that the baddy is the one with the cut-glass English accent.

(Perhaps Babe can offer us expert opinion on how this convention arose: it has always mystified - and very slightly irritated - me. Possibly it goes back to the War of Independence.)

Not willing to be held to her own standard, Emma posts this absolute gem of a retort (this time under a new sock account "OTC"), completely forgetting all about the possibility that the oil lobbyists and conservative interest groups like the Koch Brothers could be having a powerful influence on the opinions of the uneducated opposition to man-made climate change since it caters to their personal politics.

I don't get the comment anyways. I took it that 甘肃人 was just making a silly sarcastic remark, but Hemorrhoids seemed to think he was supporting her point with some kind of well-reasoned message. Water under the bridge, I guess.

Since he created his persona of his character, he was associated with it for his career. Happens to a lot of actors. He just happens to be British! Russians, Italians, French, and American English people have had the same dilemma. Sometimes the shoe just fits the public opinion of what a villain looks and talks like. If you watch television or movies, you will often see the same person cast as a villain, or a good guy.

How many bad guys has Kevin Costner, or Denzel Washington play, and how many COMEDIES have you seen them in It goes to type.

I do theatre, and that is pretty different. The director has a pre-conceived concept of a character and their physicality. I lost roles because of age, (too young) was once told I was too good looking.

Climate change is an alternate theory, skippy....not this thread. 90% of those in the "scientific consensus" are just followers saying what they've been told or what will make them popular. Saying the earth is round used to get you burned at the stake but now saying GW isn't man made gets your funding stripped. So science proved the earth was round yet the consensus in 1492 was that the earth was flat. Kinda like science proves the earth naturally heats up and cools down but the consensus is this cycle is man made.

Humans have known the Earth was round since at least the third century BC, possibly more. That information gradually spread throughout the world, or other cultures figured it out independently later on, but by 1492 the roundness of the world was known in practically all of Europe, and the Middle East and parts of Asia.

I blame the school system more than roger. It teaches lots of tosh about the middle ages. The belief that humans bathed once a year, the dark ages existed, drafts existed along with peasant armies, people dumped buckets of feces out their window and it landed on unwary passerby, there was no plumbing, etc. etc. The list goes on.

Actually, no, it doesn't. Being a lousy scientist gets your funding stripped, though.
So science proved the earth was round yet the consensus in 1492 was that the earth was flat.
That claim doesn't make sense at any level. So Columbus set out to fall off the edge of the Earth? You really think that was his goal?

The public school system actually teaches that. It is silly, but not really Roger's fault.
