I don't know if the BNP are ever mentioned or whatever in America, but if there are Americans on here who know who they are and what they stand for, what do you think about them, and how do you think the rest of America feel towards them?

(I for one would be quite amused to see a meeting between Nick Griffin and Barack Obama, especially considering that the BNP had a whites-only policy until very recently (and still would if they hadn't been forced to change it by the courts))

90% of Anericans couldn't name the PM of minor powers like of Britain and France let alone the name of the ruling party in Britain or France. If you gave a multiple choice questionas to who the current PM is: Churchill, Thatcher, Brown....Brown would come third....the first 2 names would ring a bell.

99.9% wouldn't know about the BNP and why should they? I doubt if Brits know about fringe parties in Japan or Argentina.

I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that SOME people follow politics outside their own country, what with the internet and all. And the BNP crop up in our news a fair amount, so it's possible they'll make it into world news if there's anyone monitoring it. And 0.1% of the population of America is still quite a large number.

I doubt if most people in America have heard of the BNP. Racism and holocaust denial are not all that popular over here, although we do have our nutjobs hiding in the woods of Idaho. Ours tend to be more violent and less well organized than yours.

There was a novel, Liverpool Fantasy, that depicted Britain under something like BNP rule. As the title says, a fantasy, suggesting that only the Beatles saved Britain from that fate.

Surely they would know that Churchill and Thatcher came before Blair, who they surely would know for all his meetings with Bush. Perhaps 80% would not know, but 99.9?

I said 90% wouldn't identify the PM of the UK as Brown. Perhaps you are right and in a multiple choice question, 20% would pick 'Brown'. I said 99.9 wouldn't know about the BNP.

What current world leaders could Americans name? Would 5% know the chancellor of Germany? The new russian PM? I admit to not knowing the Chairman of China even though he governs 1.3 billion people. The Prime Minister of India is...? What about neighboring Canada and Mexico?

Yes, apologies for sloppiness. 99.9 not knowing the BNP may be spot on.

I've no idea which foreign leaders Americans would know, though given Blair's cozy relations with Bush I suspect some Americans may be more familiar with British politics than with that of their own neighbours.

India's PM is Singh, but I do not recall China's leader offhand. Japan recently got itself a new one, whose wife is, well, see for yourself.

You should put Ghandi on the list, just for fun.
