    I have been given a task to lift a 20-kg weight with a home made electromagnet of 12 volts.

    What materials I should use?

    Planning to use a MS bolt of 33mm head, 24mm body dia, and 120mm length. As the magnet main body.

    Basically I want to build 2 magnets having lifting strength 10-Kg each, with the above bolts.

    What size of magnet wire I should use?, how many turns will be needed.

    The winding should be back and forth or in one direction only.

    Not sure why this is in Politics.

    I believe you are looking for "Gilbert" the unit for magnetomotive force.

    G = N x I x 1.26

    N = the number of turns in the coil
    I = the current flowing through the coil in Amperes

    Battery Powered Electromagnet capable of holding 500 lbs!
    This is a lifting electromagnet from www.sciencefirst.com which is capable of holding 500lbs with just 2 D cell batteries!
