I assume you mean the field lines don't all of a sudden stop but rather appear to go all the way around?

Similar idea to an electrical circuit, if you detach the circuit at anyone point the electrons don't flow around the circuit so the bulb turns off. The field lines go from - to + same as a circuit. If there were a sudden break, no field line.

A magnet without an encompassing field would be a monopole, which can
    currently
    not be made.
Of all the wonders in the universe, none is likely more fascinating and complicated than human nature.

"Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence"
