How fatal is a strong magnet to the human body and is there any way to protect (buffer) a magnet?
Do strong magnets attract the iron in a humans blood?
Will a super strong magnet rip open the skin?
Our brains are composed of neurons which transfer information electrically. If a super strong magnet were to be help up against your head will it affect you/ your thoughts/ your brain at all?
i think magnets would be fatal only if they were VERY strong due to the fact that they weakly repel water and could rip your cells apart if there was enough repulsion. an electromagnet running on an ac current might have some effect on the brain by inducing a current in the tissues but it would probably just give you a seizure
as far as the iron, i don't think there's enough of it in your body for a magnet to do anything

The use of strong magnetic fields is very important in medical diagnostic work. Computer assisted scanning includes CT, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The body is subjected to a powerful magnetic field. The field causes no ill effects.
The field does not affect the iron in your blood, will not rip open the skin, and does not affect neural transmission. No, we cannot control someone's thoughts with strong magnetism.

Yes you could get some wild effects. Torn muscles, torn tendons and ligaments. Actual electrical repulsion in the body, between body parts. Blood blowing out of the skin. Painful internal x-ray burns. Sure.
Long exposure to magnetic fields, is probably not something you want. However I have been welding since I was nine. And although some will argue the effects are irreversible and hideous. I feel that I have not over done it, and do not suffer from any kind of illness from it.
However the actual time welding, is probably a very low percentage of the whole week.
Long exposure to magnetic fields can polarize parts of the body and cause chemical reactions to take place, that would not have.

The iron isn't a problem because the iron in your blood exists as individual iron atoms that are isolated in organic molecules. You need many iron atoms together, interacting with each other before the iron can act like a ferromagnet. I always laugh when I hear people talking about how a magnet can heal you by drawing blood to an area or some such nonsense. A chunk of iron is ferromagnetic. A bunch of individual iron atoms sitting in hemoglobin molecules are not.
You can put three walls of steel with air gaps between each, around a magnet. And it will hide the magnet. The distance between the walls is dependent upon the strength of the magnet.Quote:

You can see in the movie that there are not, the familiar steel or iron powder stuck to that device. When you shut it off.It drops everything. And does not collect powdered steel shavings. That are abundant in that kind of a shop.
I was always amazed by this. I have had this since I was a kid. I have built multi wall devices to block permanent magnets. It works.
Some of the original "Black Boxes" aboard an airplane, were made by a fellow I knew and worked for. He explained that three walls of steel were able to protect the magnetic switches in the recording tape. This was originally done many years ago for planes. Because they were having a fair amount of crashes. And getting no data about the crash.
It does work.
