    Use your browser and explore!

There are loads of good science sites for youngsters online. You could do something really fun and wacky!

    Here's some

    http://www.exploratorium.edu/science...rer/index.html

http://www.sciencemadesimple.com/ (this ones got science fair projects on it!)

    http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/experiments.html

Right that's your lot. Stop getting people to do your research and work.

    Now it's up to you

If i was your teacher I'd put you on detention and wouldn't let you go home until you'd come up with at least five ideas!

Now go and get your homework done and help your mum with the washing up after tea!!

Ok so im thinking of doing the experiment of putting some mentos ina coca cola light bottle and watching it erupt and im wondeing if i can make the effect bigger by pouring some baking soda in the coke. Will baking soda do that?

The purpose of a science project is to find out something that you don't already know. Using baking soda in the Coke-Mentos reaction is an excellent idea. And you must also try numerous other additives -- sugar, crushed aspirin, etc. -- as a control. Go for it!

    Good idea!

Be prepared for lots of mess!

You could also try making a sodium bicarbonate rocket

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alka-Seltzer_rocket

    Have fun!

Just remember to write something about why the reaction works and the chemical processes involved. You know all those people that use the same reaction for their volcanoe projects? You could one up them and tell them exactly how and why their science fair project works.

Haha, one of my professors was judging the local high school science fair and he made one the poor girls cry. It has me really worried about my paper he's correcting, if he'll make a 15 year old girl cry, I can't imagine what he'll do to me T_T.

You're more sensitive than a 15 year old girl?

Maybe on the inside, I'm more concerned with his capacity to be cold and cruel to a 15 year old girl .

Yeh, I think a good idea as steve said is to test diifferent additives for a given liquid, and to test different liquids for a given additive. That way, you might be able to determine which combination could give you the best reaction.

If you wanted to go for a volcano type desingn like bumfluff mentioned, instead of a contained vessel, you could even work out different sized and shaped nozzles to control the exit speed of the flow...could be another one up on the volcano makers?

You could design your own. Assuming inviscid, incompressible flow (such as water flow), you can use bernoullis equation..

    (1/2)pv2+pgh+P=constant

...along with the basic equation of continuity:

    A<sub>x</sub>v<sub>x</sub>=A<sub>y</sub>v<sub>y</sub>

You'll be able to decrease or increase the amount, or velocity of the fluid, exiting the nozzle, by changing its diameter down the leght of the nozzle (as nozzles typically are). Read up on the equations, thy're pretty easy, and should give a good approximation.

Depending on what tools you have available to you, plastic would be the best choice of material, and could be vacuum-formed. If you can't get to a vacuum former, then you can cut one out of a block of wood, and line it.

Alternatively, you can probably get different sized and shaped nozzles from a local hardware shop. Test a few out, record the observations, and explain them using the above equations.

(For this to be effective, make sure you have a nice explosive reaction, and no leaks from the chamber)

    Dude... did I mention I was 12?

Ok my friend and I are so pissed right now because our teacher just didnt allow us to do the diet coke and mentos rocket experiment because she said there wasn't enough room in the school and it was dangerous. She has rejected all our other numerous ideas and we can't find any experiment we can do, that were allowed to, but will still amaze the 2-4th graders were gonna show it to.

How can you be constructive with a guy that can not tell the teacher, “Lets go outside.”

We are not going to get much out of that, sorry.

Yes you did, my apologies, I only skim-read the first post.

Your teacher didn't let you?? Too dangerous?? Whaahh?

What are schools coming to? You can't do any decent science experiments without there being a little risk. The risk involved here is minor anyway. sounds like shes covering her own ass.

What other ideas have you had?

Ok I'm not even going to answer that. But if I would I'd say: "Dude, you didn't answer my question... and does asking a twelve year-old if he wants to get It down make u feel tuff, strong and brave?"

    As an answer for Bit4bit:

Well, these are some of the ideas but I kinda understand why she didn't let us do these but they were still some pretty cool ideas.

Microwave idea: We wanted to put some aluminum ,or any other item that catches fire or explodes when put in a microwave, in a microwave and watch it explode while explaining to the children why this happends and teaching them not to do it at home.

Hairspray idea: We take a hairspray bottle and spray it while lighting the liquid spraying out with one of those long lighters so it catches on fire.

Gun powder idea: We make some gun powder and show the kids how to make it and why doing that makes it explode. And if we were aloud to even blow up a bit of it. The kids would still not remember how to make it so there wouldnt be much of a risk that one of them does it at home.

Now I know that these are not so great science fair projects but it's most of what we came up with. Sorry, computer and T.V. has ruined our imagination so we ask for help from people superior of us in this. In return if you ever need any help in WoW or perhaps MS il be glad to help you out.

Ok that's enough Vincent. Now stop trying to feel big and smart infront of a stupid twelve year-old and go find some other thread that matches your high intelligence.

HOW DID THIS INNOCENT THREAD TURN INTO SUCH AN ABUSIVE SLANGING MATCH??????

Motix you could always light a fart and show the kids the effects of the flammability of methane! That would impress the 2-4th grades!

Have a look on those links i gave you previously, some of them have some good ideas for science fairs.

Your teacher should have been a sewing teacher!

    Ignore this idiot Motix

He seems to have become fixated on one thread and you for some bizarre reason.

Listen Vincent if people have some kind of brain damage or disability they can be forgiven, a little bit of harmless cheekiness and humour is sometimes a welcome relief but for somebody that's blatantly dull, monotonous, insulting, tedious and makes little sense for 95% of the time.............
    blah blah blah.......

If you want an argument, start a new thread in trash and i'll gladly tell you what a tw*t you are.

Appeal to another teacher to help you explain to her that your experiment is not dangerous. If she still refuses, she will never do it and it is simply out of spite and not wanting to give in to a youngen. GL
