Hmmm.... it just so happened that I was looking up some stuff on various elements of psychology when I stumbled upon the theory presented back in the late 1800's that society or humans should be seen as a complex system of matter and as such should abide by the laws of thermodynamics.

That doesn't make any sense. Thermodynamics is not about complex systems but about large ensembles. For complex systems, with the characteristic of self-organization in far from equillibrium conditions it is the science of chaos and biology that we should be comparing it too and not thermodynamics. Its no wonder that you could only found this idea of applying thermodynamics in this way back in the 1800's for that is before the discovery of the great scientific oversight that brought the birth of the science of chaos. This oversight was the universal use of linear approximations to non-linear equations without understanding what was lost by doing this. You are a century out of date my friend.

Different branches of science and subfields within those different branches are a way to understand phenomena around us. However there will come a time when we know the absolute laws which govern nature. Until then we are merely trying to figure out those laws.

I suspect that fundamental laws which govern matter can be applied to larger applications.

I thought that there was a thread open on this already? Suggest mod merges with previous thread below.

Re: "a theory of society or humans seen as a complex system of matter and as such should abide by the laws of thermodynamics", I think you mean 19th century theory. In any event, there have been over 500 people who have proposed or theorized on variants or aspects of this theory. Google "HT pioneers" and read the timeline of this group at Hmolpedia to learn more.
