If Taceons exist, but they move faster than light, how are we suppose to prove their existence? My only guess is that we look for what they leave behind, but if they have imaginary mass, what do we look for that is suppose to be left behind?

You look for Cerenkov radiation in a vacuum.

If a charged particle travels through a medium faster than the speed of light for that medium, it produces the photon equivalent of a "sonic boom" or Cerenkov radiation. (note: Relativity only forbids massive objects from reaching or exceeding c, the speed of light in a vacuum.)

So a tachyon passing through a vacuum can produce Cerenkov radiation.

Cherenkov radiation occurs because light slows down in a medium and something goes faster in that medium right? So the charged matter doesn't actually go faster than 2.99792458x10^8m/sec/sec does it then?

No, that is why you would have to detect Cerenkov radiation produced in a vacuum to claim detection of a tachyon.
