I am unsure as to where to post this thread. I'm not sure if it's a characteristic of light or biological result.

Why does red light not affect your night vision?

(My appologies to the moderators if this is the wrong forum)

There is a difference between red light and infra red radiation. Both are electromagnetic waves, but infra red has a longer wavelength. A nightvision device is only sensitive to these longer wavelengths of infra red. Humans can see red light, but not infra red (guess you know that).
