    Hey everyone,
Since you guys are the smartest people I know, I thought you may be able to answer this question for me. This is a picture of my fire place, what happened here? http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img....jpg&srv=img30

This was NOT photoshoped, my mom took this picture last night and asked me if I could find out what happend. Again, this is completly un-photoshoped. My mom doesnt even know how to get the picture from the camera to the computer, let alone use photoshop. Any explaination of how this happened or what it is would be awesome. Thanks guys.

Maybe the camera was moved while the shutter was open.

Actually the picture looks too clear for that. My first reply would have been the same as Steve, and it would only take a few seconds in Photoshop to do, but if we are assuming the this is not something edited with a bit of CGI, then... I don't know... maybe we should note what exactly the irregularities are and how they might happen.

Does it only look like this on the photo, or did you actually see ?

Digital cameras can pick up infra red. (point an infra red remote control at your cell camera and press a button) So maybe to the immediate right there is a window and a draught caused the hot air to be sucked in the direction of the open window?

What type of fire was it ?

Is this the only picture or are there others with the same thing happening ?

As everybody has said so far it does look like someone has been playing around with a photo editor, the flames shouldn't be going towards the window and the chimney at the same time. The only thing i can think of is a greasy finger smear on the lens, if that was the case though you would see something similar on any other photos taken in a similar position of the fireplace.

Actually, that is a great thought, thats what I was thinking too. But the question is, if it is Ir then why would the camera, on its own add the fire color to the image. You are dead on about the window to the right, too. And no, this wasnt seen with our eyes, only in the photo, in fact there are about 4 photos of the fireplace taken within a few seconds of each other, this is the only one that shows something like that. Thanks for the help.

I can assure you that this photo is not edited in the least. Nothing about it has been changed at all, my mom showed it to me on her digital camera and asked me if I could find out what it was. I wouldn't waste my time or your time with posting a fake picture. Once again, I promise you guys, no editing has been done at all, the image seen there is the image the camera took.

This was a fire in my fire place taken two nights ago. There were about five photos taken of the fire in the course of like 30 seconds or so, this was the only image that occured on. If it would be helpful I could post the other images aswell for sake of comparison. It really is a very strange picture, it almost looks like something spirtual but I figured science could probably explain it better.

Again, I thank you all for you time, I would again like to assure everybody this image has not been doctored at all.

Seriously, though, and totally off-topic; have you ever been up the Glastonbury Tor, sunshine? If not, do go, (I can PM you my mate Simon's B&B address, if you want), it's an amazing experience, as indeed is all of Glastonbury, in a weird sort of way.

I'd love that - though I can't see myself going there until the Summer (avoiding mid-summer's day and all the druids and their fertility rituals, of course!).

    Thanks

    shanks
