If you mean a slot along it's length I suspect that if the slot was very narrow it would still behave as a capilliary action (since two plates can also exhibit cap action), certainly water would not flow out, remember though you are talking about sub-millimetric dimensions.
yes. you are right, there is a slot along the capillary. the diameter about 10 microns.
I suspect then water will fill the crack and go no further as with two plates.
