# Thread: Tesla Tower and Free Energy

1. Hello,
We are two students trying to build a small scale Tesla Tower (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wardenclyffe_Tower) that perhaps would transmit electrical energy wirelessly through a house. But first, before we start building this, we are starting on a small scale electrical energy transmitter (http://www.tfcbooks.com/patents/tower.htm). Would you please give us your opinion on the subject? We would like to know if this is possible to build and if his theories which date a century ago are still applicable today (and if not, what makes this impossible).

3. Nothing particularly magical about an air core resonant transformer (i.e. a Tesla Coil) - though you can kill yourself if you tune the thing incorrectly so make sure you know what you are doing!

4. "Transmitting" electrical power is not efficient that's why we use a grid system. Transmitting light in the form of a beam can get you up to about 20% efficient. It's not inpossible just innefficient, A dipole radio antenna radiates uniformly in all directions, in order to 'capture' all it's power you would need to totally enclose it, radiation reduces in field strength inversly proportional to the distance. Any metal object within range will absorb some of the radiation.

5. Doesn't the strength decrease according to the distance squared megabrain?

Anyway, megabrain's point is very valid - you don't have wires constraining the fields so the transmission is very leaky. Its a similar idea to why we use hose pipes to move water around a garden and not a sprinkler and a fan.

Well botswana tried something similar - apparently PVC piping is not the right material to build high pressure water lines with
