Posting this here because it's directly related to (The) physics (Forum) - the "offshoot" promoted on this forum.
There's a problem with registration: Captcha is down making it impossible for anyone new to register (I just tried because there's a loon pushing nonsense and I wanted to comment).
Strange (among other regulars here) is an habitué of that forum so perhaps someone could mention it to the relevant person and get it fixed. Thanks.

I can't see any recent posts at all there. It has been completely dead for a month or so now.

I can try and pm Speedfreak or whoever it is who does /did moderation there. And I could try to send a message to the site administrator to say the captcha is broken (that would explain the deathly silence there of late)

Thanks geordief - for some reason (glitch? brain fart? old age?) PMing didn't occur to me.

I think Markus helped run that part of the site, maybe let him know too.

Check with administrator Stryder over at Scivillage. Similar Captcha problems over there but he seems to know what or where the problem lies.

Suppose we had captcha problems here....could Markus or Kalster fix it or would if have to go through the owner?

Because thephysicforums.com has the same owner ....

Nobody has been able to contact the owner for.... years, as far as I know.

As best I can tell, he checks in a couple of times a year and fixes terminal problems that stop the site from working at all (I wish he wouldn't), but never answers anybodys calls to fix the every day problems that stop the site from being useful.

I gave up doing active admin tasks ages ago, as I have no power to do anything except ban people or make them moderators, and often the site doesn't work at all, so I forget about it for a while, until I remember about it (like tonight!) and find its "working" again. Markus handed "admin" to me ages ago, but the site is dead after losing 3 years of posts (and changes to structure) and we have no way to change anything.

At least no captcha means no new loonies to join and spam their bilge.

Geordief, I must thank you for your efforts. Want to "admin" the site?

There must be someone more suitable around (I have no scientific background)

Also ,until the site gets past this captcha problem is there even a site to admin?

Giant Evil thinks there may have been beneficial hacking on this site so maybe he or she could turn their attention to thephysicsforum.com....

Heh, I have no scientific background either!

Not to worry, and thanks again for the help.
